9.5 mths...ok to sleep on stomach?

I lost my sister to SIDS when I was very little and it has always affected me.

Lately DD is rolling over and sleeping on her belly. I roll her over but she puts her self back there.

I am so nervous with her sleeping like this. Does anyone else let there DC sleep on their belly?

DS has been sleeping on his stomach for a few weeks now (now 7mths). At first I was nervous and would flip him to his back. Per my Ped she said to leave him be.

Megan is the same age! She sleeps on her stomach all the time now. No matter how many times I flip her, she flips right back. I figure, if she can flip back and forth, its fine.

Ds started sleeping on his belly at 4 months. And even though I was nervous at first, it made a world of a difference. He started sleeping much better and for much longer.

she definitely sleeps better on her belly especially when I don't bug her. Those that let their child sleep on their stomach, do you put them down to sleep on their stomach>

good question, mine is 5 months and goes to his belly, but he digs his face into mattress...I would feel better if it was facing the side.

Both DDs are now belly sleepers. I go in there several times a night to check on them - I guess that's all I can do.

ok..at least I am not alone. This makes me so nervous.

If she can roll herself to that position, she's fine.

I used to get very nervous about this too...but my ped. reassured me that if they are able to flip onto their belly by themselves (you arent putting them down that way) that they are strong enough to move their head/neck if they need to and its ok to let them sleep in that position..

I'm so sorry about your sister...I'm not sure how old she was, but aparently the risk of SIDS dramatically decreases by the time they are 9 months old. And as all the pp have said, once they can flip themselves, its almost impossible to keep them on their backs anyway.

olivia has been sleeping on her stomach since she was 6 months old. the doctor said as long as she has head control and knows to turn her head she is fine. we actually get better sleep when she sleeps on her belly.

DS is the same age and he sleeps on his belly too. He has been doing it for the last month or so and went back to sleeping through the night.

Once DD flips to her belly, I don't flip her back over, unless she's crying. She actually hasn't mastered the flipping back over to her back on her own. I don't think she realizes how to get back onto her back.

I always put her down on her back (even now at 2 years old) and then where she puts herself is up to her. If she is strong enough to roll herself it is time to let her sleep that way -- you can't spend the whole night rolling her back!

I lost my son to SIDS so I know that fear you are talking about. I started letting Kaitee sleep on her belly when she was able to roll both ways at 4 1/2 months old. She has been fine!
