9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
I just saw on the news that the metal angel that is a part of the 9/11 Memorial in the Bushes' hometown has been dressed in a wedding veil and flowers, in order to celebrate the wedding.
Does anyone else think this is inappropriate?

Isn't everything about that family inappropriate / disgraceful / disrespectful?
From W's command of the English language, to the fact that Laura was critical of the Myanmar gov. about how they handled the cyclone (interesting considering how well the Louisiana disaster was handled by the bush administration)

Re: 9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
Here's a picture, not sure if it's part of a 911 memorial.
A white wedding veil adorns an 18-foot metal sculpture of an angel in Crawford, Texas, in celebration of Jenna Bush's wedding.
This was taken from the story:
A few doors down, a white wedding veil adorns an 18-foot metal sculpture of an angel, a gift to Crawford in 2004. The rusty artwork, a side-view silhouette of an angel, is titled "Freedom's Angel of Steadfast Love." It was created by Lei Hennessy-Owen of Jennerstown, Pennsylvania, and given to the city after Bush's re-election.
For July Fourth, the U.S.'s Independence Day, the angel is decorated in red, white and blue. She holds a wreath during the holidays. For the wedding, Judy put a bouquet of white flowers in her hands and sewed her a veil that flutters in the warm breeze.
"We were trying to think of ways to give something for people to look at when they came to town — ways to welcome people to Crawford," she said. "We thought we'd have the angel dressed as a bride."

But it doesn't look like the Bush family did this themselves...it seems that it gets decorated often....or did I read that wrong?

Re: 9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
That is totally inappropiate.. and i cant believe they would do such a thing!!
I cant even express my emotion.
eta: i just read above post, sounds like the bushs family didnt dress it themselves and this was a choice by the town. Well if they want it in a vail then its their own right. I still find it horrible and disrespectful to ALL AMERICANS.

Re: 9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
i was going to say i don't like it but after reading the article i don't think its so bad if they decorate it often for different holidays then it is appropriate for this town and it is their choice to do this, jenna's wedding is a big deal to them so i guess its okay
also eta where does it say this angel is for 9/11 it says it was a gift after his re-election unless i'm reading it wrong

Re: 9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
It doesn't say anything about it being a 9/11 memorial.
Some guy in PA created it and gifted it to the town after Bush's re-election.
I don't see anything wrong with dressing it up in a wedding veil. They dress it up for other holidays. The town's 200 residents probably don't mind it either.

Re: 9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
i'm not a bush supporter at all.
but this is not a 9/11 memorial--it was a gift to the town after his reelection. i've read that in several articles online and in the paper so i'm assuming it to be true.
if it is true, then there is nothing wrong with decorating it.
where did you read it's a 9/11 memorial?

If it WERE a 9/11 memorial or made from the beams of the WTC, I could see the but it doesn't seem to be. Rather, I think my perspective is changed and instead, think it's sweet. And trust me, I abhore Bush.

Re: 9/11 memorial & Bush wedding
I originally saw the story about it on CNN headline news, where they explicitly said it was part of the 9/11 memorial. Then I saw this article:
Article from local Texas TV station
"Even the 9/11 angel memorial on Crawford’s Main road is dressed up for the wedding party. The Steel cut-out has a wedding veil on top and a bouquet of flowers. "
