8/8- update on MemorialDayBride12
Hi everyone, I just spoke with MemorialDayBride12, her son is going in for surgery within the hour. Due to the NEC it is believed there may be dead bowel but won't know for certain. Please keep him in your prayers. I will update as soon as I hear.
Update 5:50pm- her son made it through surgery thank god. Earlier in the week it was questionable if he would if surgery was needed. He is out of surgery now. He lost half his colon and some intestine. He will need surgery in 4-8 weeks. Please keep praying for him to continue fighting.
Her other son continues to remain stable
6/6- her son with the NEC has developed a infection from the surgery yesterday. Stronger antibiotics given. If this does not work, he may need another surgery to remove more.
Her other son continues to be on the cpap and continues to destat it is doing well overall.
6/9- baby A continues to destat and is experiencing bradycardia. He is now anemic and needs blood transfusions.
Baby B is now having a yellow ooze at the incision site. There is a possibility further infection has developed. If this is the case he will need another surgery to clean out the infection and they would then leave the incision open to let it heal itself.
Mom and dad are burnt out, devastated and are emotionally drained. Please continue to pray for them and their sons and that positive news heads their way soon.
6/12- so just a quick update, baby B is stable for now. No real changes. Baby A has now contracted the same infection as baby B. Baby B is in isolation and the family hasn't changed diapers for either baby. (Infection is topical from the skin and in the groin area now for baby A) The hospital tested baby A for the infection and put him in isolation without the family knowing. He tested positive and then the family was informed when they went up for a visit. The hospital is telling MemorialDayBride12 and her family they must have spread the infection going from one room to another, however they see baby A first, wash up then baby B so there's no way baby A could have contracted this by the family passing it. Tomorrow she and her family are meeting with the neonatologist and infection control because it must have come from a nurse not washing and scrubbing up before assisting baby A and he hospital is telling her it's their fault for him getting the infection, not a hospital staff. To top this off, they were informed by the nursing staff that both babies would need to stay separate the first 6 months they are home and share nothing due to these infections. Tomorrow she will find out more about this. She is so angry that baby A has what baby B has when they aren't together and baby B is in isolation.
Right now there are no further changes with either baby.
6/20- hey everyone, sorry I haven't had the chance to update much! I've had such a busy week! Anyway, MemorialDayBride12 and her family met with the hospital, they were given a plan of care for baby B. There have been no real changes over the past week. Both babies are stable. They are attempting to ween baby B from the TPN. He was given pedialyte to attempt to transition to breast milk but didn't tolerate the pedialyte well. However, both are stable which is great news! I will update more when we speak, hopefully today!
6/29- hey everyone, sorry I've been a little consumed with work and my personal stuff. However, we did get lunch on Wednesday so it was great to finally see her after having the babies! She looks great and is doing ok! She and her family aside from the babies have been so overwhelmed but they have a great support network. As for the boys, no real major changes. On Wednesday she was told baby B has developed chonic lung disease from all the lung secretions. He's on a diuretic and hopefully won't develop pneumonia. Hopefully in a few weeks he can have the reconnect surgery. No further infections at this time. Baby A is doing well, gaining weight and is 4lbs already! He is however on the bi-pap which is one step lower than the vent, when he was only previously on the nasal cannula which is obviously upsetting, however he's doing well.
Continue to pray for them as they have the boys plus a lot of other things going on to worry about!
7/28- overall it's been a fairly quiet month with little updates for the boys, however, baby A is coming home today!!! MemorialDayBride12 and her husband are beyond excited. Unfortunately he failed his newborn hearing screening in both ears and may be deaf so the family will be going to many appointments in the near future to determine his hearing status. Additionally, the doctor at the hospital botched his circumcision and he is half circumscized and the foreskin needs to be pulled in order to clean him appropriately. Hopefully these concerns are addressed soon but the family is beyond excited to have him home!!
8/2- baby A is doing well at home. No updates or changes on him, still waiting for the hearing test. Baby B went down to radiology yesterday for a barium enema which is needed for the reconnect surgery. They were having trouble getting it done and kept the baby out of the incurbator too long and he developed hypothermia !  the family is so angry. Last we spoke, he was stabilizing. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for next week. They looked into having him moved but because he's in insulation no hospital will accept him
8/8- baby B went in for surgery today. He came out ok. It was discovered during the surgery that the NEC infection spread further after the first surgery and destroyed his bowels. He will have diarrhea at least 3 times a day for a year more or less. 80% of his colon is now gone the long term effects are unknown at this point and likely will be unknown for a year or more. Please continue to pray for the family and baby B. I'm not sure the family can endure much more.

Glad he's going to be ok! I know this is so hard and I think about you all the time. One step at a time but I pray this will all be behind you as soon as possible...

So many, many prayers for them.
I went through this with my son- born at 29 weeks, NICU, surgery, colostomy, reconnect surgery. He is now a healthy, strong 5 year old with only a scar to show. As a been-there-done-that, please let her know she can reach out to me if she has any questions.
