We amended our return. We got our regular refund by direct deposit. Our $8000, though, came by mail.
We got a letter in the mail (regular mail) saying that our amended form was received and that we would be receiving our $8000 soon. The check came a couple of weeks later, also by regular mail.

how long did it take to get the check after the ammendment? I sent ours in probably the beginning of july and i still havent heard anything..
