 | Is anyone planning to go to Ground Zero today I feel like I want to go there tonight. All these years, I have done nothing to pay tribute. I was there 3 or 4 times (ground zero) but I haven’t been in a few years. I know DH won’t want to go though.

You don't necessarily have to go there to pay your respects.

I don't really feel a need to go there, and I get really annoyed by tourists who snap pictures, etc. It's NOT a tourist attraction

why would you be annoyed by that? many people go to Pearl Harbor and take pics.

it's not like they're selling them on eBay or something. they want to remember.

I took pics there too, and I am so glad I did!

I don't know if I should have said protesters, but people who had differing opinions.

About 500 people with "Investigate 9-11" shirts on.

I don't know if I should have said protesters, but people who had differing opinions.
I'm sure the families of the victims appreciate that

there was an article about it earlier in the week.

I just think it's weird that people come to NY now and it's like "Ohh I want to see the statue of liberty, the empire state building, ground zero and rockefeller center"

It bothers me, I can't explain why

I agree. There is a time and place for everything and IMHO, today was NOT the time or place for wearing those shirts or protesting.

it doesn't bother me at all, in fact, just the opposite.

I think it is fantastic that all these people come from all over to pay respect and educate their children.

absolutely nothing wrong with it. that's why they're building the memorial... so that people can continue to come and remember forever.

It's the "smile for the camera! grandma is gona love this shot" that I don't like, KWIM?

Like people who have no concept of the significance and think it's a tourist attraction

 exactly!

but to answer the original question, I was there once, but don't feel the need to visit again. I have a really hard time still with it all. I cannot talk about that day without feeling my anxiety rise.

In fact, I took DH to dinner for his Bday on Saturday night to Ruths Chris in Weehawken, we had to change tables once (the people behind me kept talking about 9/11, and I just couldn't take it anymore). I also had to sit with my back to the window because they had the light beams up, and I couldn't even look at them.

Some people are pretty overt about their intentions. It's a hard thing to have some people crying and some people laughing like nothing happenned. I guess it's the same as it is at the holocaust museum and the vietnam veterans memorial. There will alwyas be people who do and do not understand the significance
