7 week old with a cold-update at bottom

Im feeling a lil nervous bc my Chat Icon has been coughing a lil since last night, it's intermittent and she does not have a fever but I'm worried bc I know at this age it could easily progress to something worse. Anyone else's newborn have a cold this young?
I made a doc appt for this evening

My 2nd DS did, caught it probably from his big brother. I was a wreck but thankfully it never progressed to anything worse Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 7 week old with a cold

not at 7 weeks. Sorry your DD is sick Chat Icon
DS is 5 months old with his first illness. He actually got an ear infection. Pretty much from his 2 yr old brother.

HOpefully it's a little cold and gets better. Good to go to the Ped so the Doc can check her ears.

Use a humidifier, saline, boogie sucker and keep her elevated in a bouncy or swing

Re: 7 week old with a cold

DS is 2 months tomorrow and he is on his second cold. The first was conjestion and now it is couging. Same thing, no fever, intermittent and he is eating fine. My DD who 3 is also sick with fever and ear infection, so it is going around. I went to the doctor last night and all they said to do was cold mist humidifier, saline & aspirating and to monitor. He has his 2mnth check-up on Thursday, so they will check him out again there. I will bring both DC's to the doctor any time they are ill just to be safe. I also love the Nas Frida a.k.a Snotsucker for aspirating. You can get it at BBB and it works great. It totally sucks when the little ones are so sick and with DD in daycare and preschool, no matter how much I have tried, she brings things home and he has gotten sick. :(

Good luck!

Re: 7 week old with a cold

My dd had a really bad cold when she was 5 weeks old. We used a humidifier, saline, and the bulb to suck out the mucus. I especially did the saline and bulb before I nursed (to make breathing easier) and before her bath (helped more mucus come out). Finally, keep her elevated when she sleeps. I let her sleep in her swing and just made sure she was secure in it. Good luck!

Re: 7 week old with a cold

DS got a cold at 5 weeks old, probably bc we have huge families and he was around everyone. The dr. had me put saline drops in his nose a few times a day and suction out his boogies and we put the humidifier in his room for when he napped and slept. He has a slight cough and the sniffles, it lasted about 10 days. I was horrified but he was fine, not acting any different except he was having a hard time eating bc he was stuffy.

Just keep an eye if she has a temperature.

ETA: it also helps if you put the baby in their bouncy and take a shower with them in the bathroom, the steam helps break up the mucous.

Re: 7 week old with a cold

Newborns are normally congested and cough and sneeze alot for the first few months -- it might not be a cold.

My DD got a cold at 3 weeks because my twins got one. I kept a close eye on her, but she was just fine. Chat Icon

Thank you for your response I went to the doctor and he said she has very very early symptoms of RSV. She seems to be ok though(better than I'm doing-I'm a nervous wreck!) she's congested and is still coughing intermittently and after she eats it seems worse, I think she may have some post nasal drip. Ugh it is so sad to see her like this!!
She's been pretty much sleeping all day, slept 8hrs last night, she wakes to eat and goes back to sleep-should I be worried shes so sleepy or is it just that her body is working hard to fight cold?

Wanna say she was about 8 weeks old? Ugh .. so much NOT fun! ha! I remember she was so congested that I literally had her sitting UP to sleep while leaning on me.. I was propped up by a pillow and then held up with my arm to keep her safely elevated. Worse night of sleep EVER.
