teachers! HELP!!!

So I only got my certification last dec...and then poof! in feb we found out we were pregnant and due in sept....oops!

I interviewed for a job last spring and was the "runner up" (later to find out her dad was a principal, so how do I compete!?? Chat Icon ) after doing my demo, two panel interviews, etc. - anyway, fast forward to friday where I got a call from the district again as the position is open again in a diff school and they want me to come in....I would love to work after the baby and obviously can't lie about being preggers but is it even worth talking to them and/or getting my hopes up that I could take a 6 week leave or start in oct/nov???

any advice on how to approach it would help too....I figure I can just tactfully explain that I will be coming back to work after the birth and that I know this job is what i want, that I am "perfect" for it, etc....

thanks in advance!! Chat Icon

i'm not a teacher, BUT...

it sounds like they like you and it's just a matter of time before you get a spot somewhere. i would definitely meet and explain your situation. if you continue to make a good impression, someone WILL hire you in the future when you are ready. "out of sight, out of mind" so keep the lines of communication open so when the time is right they remember you again...

good luck!

they called you, so that's great that they remembered you - they cannot legally not hire bc of your pregnancy - so i would do exactly as you said and explain that you would have every intention of coming back - just be up front and ask, what are your options? good luck Chat Icon

Re: teachers! HELP!!!

There were 4 open math positions in the district I was subbing in. Not only did I sub there, I student taught there and graduated from there.

One of my cooperating teachers spoke to the head of the dept and gave a 40 min recommendation. I also have excellent references from my teaching job in florida.

Go figure...I never got called for a 2nd interview and I know the first one went REALLY REALLY well. I do well on interviews.

I wonder why I didn't get a chance at a demo....you know why??? Because I had some what of a belly in May/June and they could figure when I was due.

Can I prove anything?? probably not.

Sorry to steal your post. You got me thinking and I'm very mad about the ordeal.

I hope you have better luck. I would go anyway. Maybe they will be more understanding, especially if they like you!!! GOOD LUCK!!! Chat Icon

Re: teachers! HELP!!!

Hey it's August and they are scrambling to fill the position. They obviously liked you a lot to call you back. I would go back, explain your situation and let them know when you will be available.

You don't know who else applied or who is available for an interview. They may be willing to wait for you. They could always hire a sub for a month.

If all else fails you will at least get the experience of another round of interviews.

Me too! If they really like you they will hire a sub for the first 6 weeks. Just be really clear that that is all you'll be out.
