Baby Shower - Buffet or Sit Down? POLL

I'm trying to decide whether to do a buffet or a sit-down, plated lunch for my baby shower. My mom wants plated. I think I do, too, but I also like the fact that guests get to have a few different things - and can have seconds, if they wish, with a buffet.

The sit-down would include penne a la vodka, a salad, a choice of chicken francaise, salmon or prime rib (the restaurant said they can make something different for any vegetarians), potato, vegetables and a make-your-own sundae station-with a baby shower cake we would bring.

The buffet would include two carving stations, chicken francaise, oriental beef stir fry, salmon, penne a la vodka, potato, vegetable, four cold stations (like grilled veggies, tomato, portabella mushroom and balsamic vinaigrette, fruit platter and regular salad), sundae station and our cake.

Both include champagne punch and soda, coffee and tea.

What would you prefer and what have you experienced more at baby showers?

ETA: The shower will be at Captain Bill's Waterview Room. So, it IS kind of a formal setting.

I personally prefer sit down, just seems more formal.

I would prefer buffet, but I'm also very odd and really uncomfortable in formal showers! Sit-down menus feel a little more formal--if that's what you're comfortable with, go for it...it's your day!

i don't want mine at a restaurant (fingers crossed) but if i did have it there we would definitely do a sit-down

I prefer buffet, but I prefer very casual showers. I know mine will be a home shower. I like the mingling provided by a buffet.

My friend had her wedding shower there and it was a buffet and it was really fabulous!

I wnated to say that I have been to buffet shower at Captain Bills and I was very impressed with the spread, I would go for the buffet. They set it up beautifully and there are more options for people

For me personally, I MUCH prefer a sit down menu. I don't like the idea of my guests having to to get up and wait in line for their food.

That was the #1 request I made for both my bridal and baby shower....it had to be a sit down menu.


ETA: Just saw that you are deciding between the two options for Captain Bill's. The buffet there is pretty great, so you really can't go wrong with either one!

for a baby shower i prefer a buffet, its a little more informal but i like the idea of everyone mingling etc..

My shower with DS was sit down.

My sprinkle with twins was buffet.

Normally I prefer sit down, but the buffet was done so nicely I liked it better!

Normally I prefer sit down but I tend to see baby showers as more casual and I think a buffet is better so people can chat, move tables etc. I also think getting seconds = clutch!
My bridal shower was sit down but baby shower was buffet..worked great in both instances.

For showers I prefer buffets, I just like the informal aspect of the shower. However, I love love showers at home versus showers at restaurants so it could be that I really just am informal when it comes to showers.

I think certain types of venues you should have certain types of seatings. In this case i would say served plates. However, i do agree with baby showers being a bit less formal. I think i too may do buffet. So either way its great.

I prefer a buffet, mainly because when I attend showers, I feel like I am sitting in my chair the whole time... at a buffet, I feel as if people are more likely to be out of their seats and mingling... jmo

I prefer a more casual shower, so I choose buffet.

i like buffets for the mingling and casual vibe. sometimes its nice to get up and move around instead fo sitting in the same place for 3-4 hours

This is where my bridal and baby shower was and we did the buffet and we LOVED it! Got a lot of good feedback as well and the food is delicious!
