Re: IUI question
For us it was because I am 38 and DH is 47 and we have been trying to conceive on our own for over a year. We also tried Clomid for three months during that year and nothing.
We saw the RE right after the clomid my GYN prescribed didn't work.
After all the testing and being diagnosed with unexplained infertility we were given the choice to either continue trying on our own with clomid or other help or go straight to IUI.
We decided to do IUI with injections because my DH has a white blood cell condition and the medication he needs to take could affect sperm count and cause birth defects.

Re: IUI question
For me, we did an IUI with our first medicated cycle. I ovulate like twice a year naturally, so the RE decided that if I do ovulate on the meds, I should go for IUI right away. Who knows when it will happen again? It took about 4 months to get me to the point where I was taking Clomid and ovulated (I had issues with cysts from PCOS), but I went for my IUI yesterday.
I don't know how standard this number is, but my RE specifically told me that at their practice, doing an IUI results in literally twice as many pregnancies as timed intercourse.

Re: IUI question
im in the unexplained category
i also has a leep/conization on my cervix in 2003... and they think maybe part of my infertility is due to not enough mucos
the iui bypasses that area so its no longer a concern
so we will see!!

wow, we have the same story. This is the same exact scenario for me, mine were done in 2007...I have been told my cervix no longer looks "normal" so my doc was hoping to bypass the cervix with IUI...now in the 2WW with my 2nd IUI.
