6 weeks and napping for hours!?!?!

Should I wake my 6 week old up? He has been sleeping since 1:30 and it is 5:25!!! This hasn't happened before! I would love to leave him sleeping since I am getting so much done but not sure if it is bad!!!

Unless there were issues with his weight that he needs to wake up to eat then I would enjoy it if I were you!

FABULOUS!!! He is usually up every 2 hours or so to eat so I am not used to this! I almost feel like I am neglecting him but you just made me feel better! Back to catching up on tons of laundry and cleaning I go :)

i was always told not to let DS sleep for more than 4 hours during the day at that age. not exactly sure the reason but i've been trying to train him from the beginning to know the difference between day and night and I thought that was one way.

eta: DS is my first and only 3 months so I'm no expert - just giving my 2 cents!!!! i know how important nap time is for mommy Chat Icon

I have heard the same but I have also heard the never wake a sleeping baby deal also. It has been exactly 4 hours so I will give him another 15 minutes then wake him. I have literally been hovering over the bassinet every 15 minutes checking to make sure he is breathing! I know that is terrible to say but he just never goes this long napping. Thanks for the input guys!

Ehhh enjoy it! My 9 week old NEVER SLEEPS during the day. She just started taking maybe 2 half hour naps...maybe. But on the flip side she sleeps through the night so I can't complain!

Ok, DS is also 6 weeks. Our ped told us at the hospital not to let him go more than 4 hours without eating so that is what we did and everyone we told thought that we were crazy for waking him up to eat. Well, we went to our one month check up and saw another doctor in the practice and we mentioned that and she was like NEVER WAKE A SLEEPING BABY! She weighted him and said that he was gaining weight and was perfect and for now on let him sleep as long as wants. She said that the reason the other ped said that was because he was young, new and overly concerned whatever that means

I never let Joey go past 4 hours per ped. & myself Chat Icon (although I will say I'm not sure he ever had gone past 4 hours during the day)

ETA- but I agree with below, if you don't want to. . don't! Chat Icon

When Lily was that age, I woke her every 3 hours to eat. She had her days and nights mixed up and I put her on a schedule to get her straightened out. It also helped her to sleep longer at night.
But you certainly don't have to wake a baby if you don't want to!

My dr. says to never wake a sleeping baby (unless there were weight issues which we had for a while with Charlie). I say let him sleep!

Ive always gone by the rule of never wake a sleeping baby.
DD2 is now 2 months old and sleeps anywhere from 10-12 hours at night and she takes 2 smaller 1-2 hour cat naps during the day. Right from the time we got her home from the hospital she would sleep sometimes for 5-6 hours between feedings. This was the same situation with DD1 who is now 5 (and only recently gave up her 2 hour afternoon naps because she started kindergarten....I know...I was really lucky)
Dont worry...If DC is hungry they will wake up and let you know that they want to be fed.

right around six weeks my son would take sleeping bendersChat Icon he would sleep from like 2pm-7pm or 10am-2:45pm. Always in his swing. I let him. Weight and eating weren't an issue and I am glad he (and I) had that time
