6 week old - help with routine
When my 3 year old was a newborn, I remember using the EASY schedule on her with no problems. I now have a 6 week old and cant figure out her eating/sleeping routine.
She will stay awake after a feeding but then only naps for a very short time. If she wakes up, its too early to eat...So how can I get her on the EASY schedule, or is she still too young? I cant remember when I started with my first DD.
Can any moms with 6 week olds help describe your day? I feel very out of sorts, dont know if shes hungry, or tired or what for most of the day.... Also cant get her out of my arms for a nap...if I baby wear her, she can go 4 hours. If I try to put her down, she can go 20 minutes. If I carry her, she is dozing in and out of sleep constantly.
TIA!

6 week old - help with routine
This sounds exactly like my 6 week old. I dont know what the EASY schedule is, but basically my DD's days vary so much from one day to the next right now. One day, she can sleep all day, waking just to eat and then going right back to sleep. Other days, like today, she's awake all day, barely napping for 20 minutes at a time.
She eats 3.5oz every 2.5 to 3 hours pretty consistenty, but her sleep is all over the place and I havent been able to get her on any sleep routine at all. Some nights, she's up every 3 hours. other nights, she can sleep a good 5-6 hours straight.
I have trouble getting her to nap out of my arms too. She can sleep so comfortably if I'm carrying her, but the minute I put her down to nap, her eyes are wide open and she just wants to be held again... unless she' having a sleep all day kinda day.
maybe theyre just too little to be on a routine. IDK. Whats the EASY schedule? How much/how often is your baby eating?

6 week old - help with routine
we do EASY but DS (5 months old) almost always ways up waaaay before Eating time so we just play for a bit after nap time and before meal time.
6 weeks is still young though - she'll get the hang of it sooner or later

EASY is Eat, Activity, Sleep, YOU time. So basically the baby will eat, then play, and then supposedly sleep until its time to feed again. Then, repeat. I found it to be good consistency for both me and my first born.
At least your baby eats consistently! I feel like I am all over the place with mine. She will eat every 2.5-4 hours, varying from 2oz to 4 oz. I guess because she is up all the time and I am not sure if shes hungry or not but I will always try to feed, so she may eat a little, or she may eat a lot. At night, she hasnt gone longer than 3 hours yet

Re: 6 week old - help with routine
DD is 9 weeks and just really started getting into an obvious routine this past week. Dealing with reflux, it was impossible to be consistent with feedings but now that she is more comfortable (on the right dose of Zantac) its been better.
She eats 4.5oz, diaper change then hangs out for about 40 minutes. We sing, read, activity mat, bouncy seat etc. When she is settled (less leg kicking, kinda zoning out) i try to get her to sleep. Give her the paci, put her in the bouncy with vibration or swing and she sleeps for about an hour to 1.5 hours. She usually wakes 30-60mins before her next bottle. Sometimes she is looking to eat right away, other times she is just content to hang out. I try to make it to that 3 hour mark as often as I can.
Her last bottle is at 730. She kind of doses in and out until 930 then I top her off with another 3 oz and she sleeps until 230am. Its been working out so that I am reallly only waking 1x per night.
I am thinking of adding a nightly bath now to get her to wind down after that 730 bottle, maybe around 830 after my son is in bed. I can tell when she is over stimulated and she gets CRANKY!
So i guess we follow feed, activity, sleep also.

Routine is really the better word. I'm not looking to put my DD on an actual schedule. And to your point, I guess what I'm saying is I don't know how to follow DDs lead bc I don't know what she needs. Without the routine I don't know if she's hungry or tired. I have fed her at times when she only drank an ounce so clearly she wasn't hungry. It just seems to be all over the place where sometimes she can go 4 hours without eating and other times only 2. Sometimes she will drink 2 oz, other times 4. I feel these are big enough differences where maybe I'm doing something wrong and not getting it.

DS will be 8 weeks tomorrow and I try to follow EASY to some degree, being flexible since he is so young. It's usually more like E-A-S-A since he doesn't sleep through to his next feeding, but that's fine.
I'd recommend trying to just spend a little time figuring out your daughter's cues when she's hungry (vs tired) so you aren't feeding too soon or waiting too long. If she's going 2-4 hours, try maybe feeding her about every 3 hours, which is average for 6 weeks old. In time, she may stretch it to 4 hours between feedings. I also find that consistency helps stretch the baby longer at night - though you probably have to wait at least a few more weeks for that.
Also, remember that at 6 weeks your daughter might be hitting a growth spurt, so be sure to feed her if she seems hungry. Then try more of a schedule/routine next week at 7 weeks.
