6 month old fever and vomiting
DD just projectile vomited all over both of us. I called the pediatrician and the receptionist said he'd probably call back this morning, if not then definitely this afternoon. That was at 11 AM. I then took her temp and she has 100.8. I called the office back at 11:15 to add that to the message, and the receptionist told me that the dr. would call me back, he's still seeing patients. I told her that I understand that, but wanted to add this new information. I also told her that I'm really nervous, should I just bring my DD in rather than wait for a return call. She said I should wait for the return call.
Soooo, I have 2 questions:
1. What should I do for DD? Should I give her tylenol or wait for the dr. to call back. She doesn't seem to be in discomfort, just a little cranky
and
2. What is an appropriate amount of time to wait for a call back? When I've called with general questions, he'd sometimes call me back the next day. I was fine with that, but now that she's sick, I think he should be calling me back within an hour or so.... is that correct?
Thanks!

I wouldn't give the tylenol yet...try some pedialyte...see if LO keeps that down. Sounds like a stomach bug. keep your LO hydrated..if she keeps stuff down then maybe give the tylenol

Re: 6 month old fever and vomiting
thanks... I don't have any in the house and don't want to take her out now. Can they drink that this young? Also, how long is normal to wait for a call back?

Re: 6 month old fever and vomiting
Yeap my DS had stomach bug at 1 month and thats what they told me.. you can try to water down the formula as well or go with sips of water in the bottle.. they need to stay hydrated..
not sure how long to wait though.. i'd call again at 2:00...they wont be able to do anything for a stomach bug though.. just need to ride them out..keep the hydrated!!

Re: 6 month old fever and vomiting
I agree with Linda. DS had a stomach bug as well and we started with pedialyte and then switched to watered down formula.
Hopefully your ped will call back soon, often times they use lunchtime for calling back patients.

100.8 is barely a fever. Sounds like a stomach bug. Most important thing is to make sure he stays hydrated.

Re: 6 month old fever and vomiting
she drank only 5 oz at 1:00 (she usually has 8) and then took a nap from 1:40-2:10. She woke up and spit up a lot. Dr. still hasn't called back. Her fever went down. She seems fine, I'm just worried that she's not holding down enough. Is it bad if I call again?

Re: 6 month old fever and vomiting
As long as she is wetting her diapers, she should be fine. Try the pedialite and see how she is in the morning. A temp of 100.8 is nothing to worry about. DS had 100.5 all day last wed and the pedi said it was from teething...

Re: 6 month old fever and vomiting
thanks everyone :) My ped called back and said to try giving her 2 oz of formula every 2 hours. If she keeps that down, great, if not, try pedialyte. She just drank 1 oz 3, and so far so good. He said that it sounds like she has a bug that's preventing her from digesting large amounts, so I should give her small amounts more frequently to keep her hydrated. Makes sense. Thanks so much for all your help!
