Do you think doll stroller toys are only for girls?

All the toddlers at the playground near our apt seem to have a toy stroller. The boys have them as well as the girls. 13.5m old DS always wants to push others' toy strollers.

DH seems to think that this is a girl's toy and didn't want to get one for DS.

Does your DS have one of these stroller toys?
Do you think it is feminine?

It must be a city thing bc I dont see them out here but at our old park in the city, ALL the little boys had them. DH didnt want DS to have one so DS would always try to take other kid's strollers at the park. So one day I just went to Planet Kids and bought one knowing he wouldnt return it. DS LOVED it. Planet Kids at least has some boyish ones. As I said to DH, HE pushes a stroller so why is it feminine if DS does?

I'm sure DH wouldn't be thrilled with Ryan "owning" one, but he plays with my little sister's baby doll stuff all the time. We have a spare $20 umbrella stroller (meant for a real baby) that Ryan can use around the yard too since it's jungle print.

I have never been to Planet Kids. I think I will just go and buy one. We went to TRU last weekend and DH said it was too girly and bought him a boyish toys. Men! Chat Icon

I don't know if DH would care, but if DS wanted one I'd get it for him. He's a little boy, not a grown man. Chat Icon Not that there's anything wrong with grown men playing with dolls and strollers Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't see why not. I also don't see why (most) men have an issue with their sons having a "girly" toy. My DH would fit into the most men catagory. I think it's silly. If the kid likes it, buy it. Would he (they, most men) get upset if their daughters wanted a Tonka truck?

I think it might be a city thing also. Every kid (boy and girl) had them in our neighborhood but when I went to go visit my friends outside the city and go to their local parks I never see them. As a matter of fact, DH and I already talked about it and it doesn't bother him (or me) since we're so used to seeing the boys and girls using them. Maybe if we were not used to seeing little boys with them he might feel differently. I could care less either way.

We bought DS a "little brother" doll, stroller, and bottle to prepare him for his sibling. I dont think it necessarily worked in that sense, but he does like playing with them.

Re: Do you think doll stroller toys are only for girls?

yes - I consider them girl toys. Do I let my sons play with them - yep they do all the time at other peoples houses - although they prefer to crash them like race cars. Do I care if they play with them - not one bit - go for it and have fun. Would I buy them for my sons - nope and honestly they have never asked for one and I don't think they'd want one. There are some girly toys they have asked for but strollers are not one of them.

I would get one for DC if they wanted it, regardless if they're male or female...and I know DH wouldn't care either...I'd want DC to be happy, and not care what others think

Ds doesn't have one yet but he does love playing with his cousin's doll strollers. Ds does have a baby doll that is dressed in blue. He really wanted one so we bought him one. I thought dh would be against it but he had no problem.

My DH probably would not be thrilled with the idea, but I don't think it is feminine. There is nothing wrong with little boys imitating their fathers taking care of their children. JMO.

Re: Do you think doll stroller toys are only for girls?

Whatever DS gravitates to I will support, but I will also encourage him to have diversity of toys. We had baribes and gi joes, strollers and trucks, guns and wands. IMO its all lthe same stuff, my sister liked the girl colored ones, I liked the boy colors. I think it had to do more with our astrological signs than our sexual identity. Chat Icon

eta: I just was remembering playing cops and robbers with my sister and her shooting me with a wand, and I shooting her with a gun, she's now a hard core gamer who owns beauty salon ... go figure

The Build a Bear store sells a stroller made for their stuffed animals. It comes in pink or blue.

I don't see the big deal but I don't have boys. My friends all have boys and when they come over to play the boys are all over DD's babies, strollers, playhouse, etc.

Re: Do you think doll stroller toys are only for girls?

My DS LOVES pushing my niece's stroller with a baby doll or bear in it. he always gravitates towards it when we are at his cousins houses.

That being said, he does not own one and I think DH would be a little Chat Icon if I bought him one because he has so many other push toys. I think it's a little girly.

But I generally don't buy DS too many toys to begin with since we get so many as presents.

Re: Do you think doll stroller toys are only for girls?

I don't see a problem with a little boy pushing a doll stroller. I am going to buy one for my DD and DS soon. My DD is 18 months and my DS is 2.5 years. I see boys and girls in my neighborhood pushing them. My DH does not care if my DS pushes a stroller. We are very open in our house with toys. We bought a baby doll for my DS before my DD was even born. I really don't see the big deal. I am not sure why anyone would have a problem with a little boy pushing a stroller. Grown men push strollers and take care of babies so why shouldn't we teach are little boys about it. JMO
