Insurance Question
DH is thinking about a career change, he's currently a union carpenter in NYC, but due to the economy he's been out of work for a bit and since our insurance doesn't cover anything fertility related he's considering a change.
Does anybody know of any blue collar jobs (that don't require any college education), that have insurance that covers fertility treatments?
If you don't want to post feel free to FM me, TIA!

Re: Insurance Question
Thank you! Excuse my ignorance but what jobs are included in county jobs? Like sanitation and things like that?

Re: Insurance Question
I think finding any job is going to be difficult.
I have been hunting for months and havent even received a call about my resume.
And I know many jobs are cutting benefits so to find a job that is better than union benefits might be really hard

You're probably right. This economy is awful. It s ucks because our benefits are great, except for the fertility aspect.

Then honestly I wouldnt switch just to find benefits with fertility cause everything else might be worse.
Being in a union is amazing during good times.....i grew up in a union family.....

Re: Insurance Question
my BIL works for DOT (Department of Transportation, they pave the roads) requires no college and the insirance def. covers the treatments bc him and his wife had a few issues and they didn't pay out of pocket.
Also, would he consider driving a bus? MTA has good insurance too and no college is required. He would need a CDL license though.

We're actually considering the MTA! My dad is a bus driver with them for over 25 years.

I grew up union too and DH would NEVER consider non-union as an option. I agree that switching for the fertility would probably hurt us in some other area of our insurance. It's just hard to think logically and long term!

Re: Insurance Question
DH is a teacher (Nassau County) and our insurance covers up to $50k in ivf before we have to pay anything. I'm told that the custodians and security guards have the same benefits, plus vacation.

Yup, well my dad actually started with Green Bus Lines but the MTA bought them out a few years back. He used to work out of the Jamaica garage now I believe he's out of the Rockaway garage.

My dad was with Triboro Coach in Jackson Heights before they were bought out and now he's in the LaGuardia garage....
Def. tell your DH to apply when they're hiring, you never know, their benefits are great and so is the vacation time.
