An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

Neither of my DC's took to the binky from day one ...Both just spit it right out..

BOTH of them ( and DD still does) "have to" be rocked to sleep...
I put quotes around "have to" because I'm sure eventually through either CIO or another method they would go to sleep other ways but for me its the path of least resistance and I don't mind it....

Now for my question as I am tring to figure out if children that can be put down without being rocked , more often then not rely on a pacifier and if there is a coorelation ....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

I do know that binkies can be an enemy as well ( falling out in the middle of the night causing havoc Chat Icon ) , but I am just trying to get a general feel and wondering if my DC's were binky kids if the whole "sleep" thing would have been less taxing on me and if the binky takes the place of me soothing (rocking)

Sorry if this is confusing, humor me Chat Icon

DD is 3 months old

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? Yes

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? Yes, I rock for about 5 min prior to puttting her in crib. Most times she is asleep- sometimes awake but drowsy.

3) At what age did they SSTN ? 2.5 months old- 10+ hours.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? Yes, since day 1, he's always needed it fo sleep, that's all though.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? Yes, rock, nurse, whatever it took.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?
10 months when we did CIO. Until that point we were still co-sleeping and getting up multiple times to nurse. I'd had it and was exhausted and knew he was getting up out of habit and not hunger or anything else. Put him in his crib, did CIO and it took a week.

Overally, the pacifier was not the issue, it was that he didn't know how to fall asleep on his own and self-soothe, I had to teach him. The pacifier was a crutch as was my boob, as was the rocking and everything else.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? Nope

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? YES every time I need DD to sleep I have to pace around the room rocking her back and forth and patting her back. Sometimes it takes her over an hour to fall asleep

3) At what age did they SSTN ?
HA rightChat Icon i'm lucky she gives me 3hrs at this point.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?
* Both girls refused the binky

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? He did for a few months. Took it away at 8 months

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? When I first put him donw for the night - no. If he wakes during the nigth, DS expects it. I will rock for a little bit, but he wants you to rock him til morning and that's not happening.

3) At what age did they SSTN ? DS is 14 months and STTN 50-70% of the time.

1) Does/did your DC take a binky? Kaydyn never took one
Ainsley takes one occasionally but spits it out as soon as she falls asleep

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)? Kaydyn was rocked until 6/7 months then we were able to put her down sleepy...we did CIO for the middle of the night feeding

Ainsley is sleeping right noe anywhere from 6-8 hours at night

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

DS never took to a pacifier

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

I nursed him to sleep until about 8 or 9 months, after that we switched up the bedtime routine and he went down awake without a problem. (there was a few day adjustment where I would let him cry for 10 minutes then soothe him)

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

He started at 8 weeks, stopped when we introduced solids and then started again around 9 or 10 months.

Luce is six months

he takes a pacifier to sleep. spits it out when he did done with it.

I just nurse him to sleep. sometimes I will just stroke his face/head gently as well.

my mil uses the stroller to get him down.

he does not sleep through the night. he wakes up for feedings every 3 hours. he will also occasionally kick out or stir in his sleep from gas.

I will say this though, as soon as we took the binky away at 2 for sleeping he has been a nightmare to get to bed despite the fact that my son is like Linus with 5 blankets. Still trying to work through that.

Re: An inpromptu study I'm conducting- Re: SSTN kids- Easy to put down kids and pacifier use....

1) Does/did your DC take a binky?

YES DD DOES TAKE A BINKY, SHE LOVES IT.

2) Do/Did you have to rock them to sleep (or pat their backs etc...)?

I use to rock DD to sleep but as she has gotten older (8 months now) she is all over when I give her the night time bottle. It's like a wrestling match that she just kind of needs to be put in her bed and she will eventually put herself to sleep.

3) At what age did they SSTN ?

She started SSTN around 3/4 months. She may go a few weeks without waking up through the night and then a few weeks where she wakes up 2/3 times but she just is looking for her binky.
