5 month old pulling on ears...
Does that always mean ear infection? She doesn't seem to be crying more than usual, but has been pulling on her ears, mostly her right one, a lot and sticking her fingers in it. But she has been starting to use her hands a lot more in general to grab at everything, including her feet and hair, so could she just be interested in her ears and playing with them because she's starting to notice more things around her and on her body?
I don't want to drag her to the doctor and make her wait in the sick child waiting room if she's just playing with her ears, but I also don't want to let it go if it might be the start of an infection. wwyd?

I'd see if she has a fever. Pulling on ears doesn't necessarily mean she has an ear infection. She could be teething, or just exploring.

Thanks, she doesn't have a fever, but she is teething. I'm going to keep a close eye on her though to check for signs of infection.

DS pulls at his ears all the time. He has never had an ear infaction.

I am going through the same exact thing! Our ped said most likely teething. She said if no fever is present and she isnt displaying cold symptoms then teething is most likely what it is. Good luck!!!

Thanks ladies, that's what I'm hoping, either teething or just exploring. I can't wait til she can talk and just tell me why she's pulling on her ears!

Interesting, thats when DD pulls her ears, when she has her bottle or she'll rub her eyes and tug her ears. I wonder if shes doing it because shes tired

Same with DD. she's 2 and a half and still does it

I thought the same thing when DD started tugging and it was around that age too. She has not yet to have an ear infection (knocking on my desk now)!! I think she is just exploring!

My dd does it all the time. She does it when shes tired or getting cranky. No fever no cold. Shes also teething. I wouldnt worry much

exactly...and as they get older it can also be a sign of frustration. I noticed DS pulled at his ears often when he seemed frustrated and wanted to communicate but couldn't

Actually, I noticed she mostly does it while she's nursing, so maybe it has something do with the suction when they're drinking?
