5 month old - convertible carseat
My DS has become really uncomfortable in his infant carseat. He is always straining to get out and sweats terribly because it's too cramped. So we got the convertible and used it for the first time the other day. He seems so small in it! He's MUCH more comfortable but I feel like there isn't enough head support because the headrest is too wide for his tiny 5 month old head! He fell asleep in in the other day and his head ended up completely sideways. The infant insert won't help because he is over the weight limit and in any case it's for the body, not the head. Have any of you had a similar experience? What did you do? TIA!

I put my DS in the convertible at 4 months. and they can be in them from about 6lbs (check the seat) so its perfectly safe for them. DS slept in his all the time and he had complete neck control so it never bothered him.

I just switched DD to a convertible a couple of weeks ago and she just turned one. I do remember with my other DC switching them earlier 6/7mos and had no issues with the neck rolling or dropping. They should have an insert (buybuybaby) for the support.

Did your seat come with an infant insert for the head part? Mine did. DD was 11 months old by the time we put her in it, so we took ours out right away but the convertibles are made for small, young infants too so they should have something in there to support their head that you can remove later

Re: 5 month old - convertible carseat
We got the Chicco Nexfit - it has an infant insert but it doesn't really go to the head - it mostly provides additional cushion around the body. Plus it says to remove when the child reaches 11 lbs - DS is 18 lbs now. Hmph...I'm going to play with the recline and ensure it's all the way back. I like the seat but it just bothers me how much room he has for his head. He has full head control but when he's sleeping he's like a bowl of jell-o lol

check the recline of the seat. We moved DS to his convertible at 2/3 months...he HATED the infant seat and would sweat ect. He was MUCH happier in the convertible.

Interestingly even the manufacturer website shows a pic of a baby with a lot of room on either side of the head. See pic:
