 | UPDATE in 1st post HELP!! Katie was up all night screaming I dont know what to do Like I posted before she was exposed to Coxsakie.
Sha had a fever of 100.8 yesterday and was up all night screaming, passing a lot of gas and will not eat a drop of formula.

I called my peds office and no one answers yet and when I press "1" for emergency it saysd operator not available.

I dont know what to do - any suggestions? She is just crying and crying - hysterical crying not ust regular crying. I know she must be starving by now too.

 UPDATE
I just found red sores in her mouth and she is just crying and crying. I can't take it anymore. DH is being useless today too which is unlike him. Its been all me, all day. I'm so fed up. I cant take much more. She just cries and cries and I cant do anything for her....looks like we're in for a long few days.

 Poor baby!

 | Re: HELP!! Katie was up all night screaming I dont know what to do If it is coxsackie (which is kinda what it sounds like) There is nothing more than you can do other than keep her hydrated...
Its viral and has to run its course...

You could call the St.charles line???

I would make an apt. with your Dr or covering Dr today, just to get her checked out (and as far as blisters go- Ryans didnt show up until he was almost 100% better..)

Try to get what you can into her (I notcied Ryan would eat his jarred fruit or reg. fruit since it was cold -as well as cold water)

 | Re: HELP!! Katie was up all night screaming I dont know what to do It does sound like it could be coxsackie now because we had the same thing! It really makes them miserable!
My DD refused to take bottles for a few days. She's been feeling much better for 2 now and she even didn't take so much yesterday --- if it is coxsackie her throat probably hurts her a lot so it makes it painful for them to eat.

I hope you were able to get in touch with your dr and when you do get in touch i'd tell them about what happened wit hthe emergency number! that's crazy!!

when Emily wouldn't eat or drink anything I tried a few things to at least get some fluids in her. tried giving her water from a regular cup, which kinda worked but not really. she loves doing that usually but was justnot up for it. tried pedialyte pops but overall she didn't get much from it.

she did drink a big from the sippy cups but the biggest thing was sucking on ice cubes.

i would hold the ice cube with a paper towel around it and just let her suck on it, and when it got very small I'd just put it in her mouth and she'd finish it that way. it was the only way I could get any fluids in her for about 2 days.

also Emily was so miserable and I found I just had to hold her CONSTANTLY. there was no putting her down! she just wanted to be held and cuddled and if that's what she needed then I had to do it! she normlaly isn't the most cuddly baby but she was when she was sick. I also found that putting on her favorite videos worked -- like blues clues and sesame street. it was a distraction. i don't know if katie watches tv or videos but maybe some baby einstein or something.

i hope the little girl is feeling better and i hope you are OK too. It is so stressful when they are like this -- it really takes a toll on us -- so please hang in there.

 any updates?

 | Re: HELP!! Katie was up all night screaming I dont know what to do Hi Girls, I was sitting with her asleep on my chest for a while. She started to stir a little and I grabbed her bottle and while she laid on my chest I stuck the bottle in her mouth. She was half asleep but took the bottle and drank about 4 oz. Its the first formula she has had in over 12 hours.
She is sleeping now on her belly in her bassinet. She cant be on her back bc she cries and cries.

I got in touch with the on call ped and he was an idiot. He said "She could be perfectly fine!" Um..no she isn't and thats why I had you paged you ding bat!

Anyway we got 4 oz in her and I'm going to try and get some more fluids in her when she wakes up. We'll watch her closely to make sure she stays hydrated and if not, we will take her to the emergency room.

If she does take a little bit of her bottles throughout the day, we're going to hold off and take her to her ped in the morning.

Luckilly it looks like my DH will be able to take the day off and take her to the dr (I just started my new job and really want to try not to take time off). He may be able to take Tues off too if she is still sick but if not I may end up having to take a day too.

Thanks for all the suggestions and
  !!
How long does this take to run its course if it is Coxsakie? Which I really think it is. I'm just so glad she is fianlly sleeping instead of hysterically crying.

Ahh...motherhood. My poor little baby! SHe's only 3 1/2 mos old...I feel so bad for her.

I do this with the kids in my day care and you can really see if there are any blisters. The only thing you can do with coxsackie is make they comfortable and keep them hydrated. But if you had a diagnoses I'm sure you would feel better. As long as she has wet diapers and is crying tears, she should be hydrated enough. I can't believe that idiot Dr said that to you! I would complain about that, she is still so young!
I hope you both get some much needed relief

I looked in her mouth and didn't see any blisters but I couldn't see down her throat and she was crying so bad I didn't want to push it.

Oh yes she is crying tears still so I know she is hydrated and she's also drooling a little bit. I just have to watch her now, she is sleeping and I pray she stays sleeping for a while, she needs it - as I do LOL

 | Re: HELP!! Katie was up all night screaming I dont know what to do Not liking your pediatrician at all today! If you need to have her seen & your doctor won't see her, Huntington Medical Group is open. You can make an appointment to go to whoever is on today.
I would also start keeping track of how many wet diapers & how much formula you can get in her. Don't consider the drooling as being hydrated. Drooling is one of the first signs of coxsackie if she does have it.

Coxsackie is usually about 5 days. Check her toes & her fingers for tiny blisters. It could be something else.

 Poor Katie, poor mommy.

Not liking your pediatrician at all today!
  :

Me either but it was the ped on call, not my regular ped. DH is going to bring her to the peds office in the morning. She is napping now, has been for about 2 1/2 hours. She had a 4oz bottle before that so at least she is getting some fluids. Im going to give her Tylenol when she wakes, it really seems to help her.

 | Re: HELP!! Katie was up all night screaming I dont know what to do Emily also drooled a LOT with coxsackie so it does sound like that is what it is. Like I said, we never saw blisters -- even the dr --- but she could have it without them from what my DR. said and it sounds like she has the other signs. I also had a wimpering baby for days and if she wasn't whimpering she was screaming. It is so hard and just breaks your heart.
I found ibuprofen to help make her comfortable more then the tylenol but i think that's only after 6 months.

Also I know that Stony Brook Hospital has a 24-hr Urgent Care Baby center so if you do feel that she got dehydrated that's always an option.

Hang in there! 4-5 days and it'll pass, and yesterday and today count as the first 2!

I would definately call the dr again -- you said you got the on call dr so maybe it will be a different one. also are you giving her tylenol? you can give it every 4 hours---

and how is she doing on fluids? wet diapers? tears etc.?
