I would email him to see if he still works there etc and just mention that you are interviewing with the company and see where it goes from there

Definately call him. Ask him questions about the company. And ask if you can use his name. He may be able to put a good word in for you too.

i agree.
also, i would be weary of throwing his name out there just because you dont know how they view him either, ya know? But, definitely email him to get a feel for it.
