We wanted style (had to be a colonial/victorian with a porch) and a specific location. After that, we were pretty open.

our house had to have potential and the right price.........
We bought a 2 bedroom and gutted it and added a second floor so now it is a 4 bd 3.5 bath

LIRR commute less than 50 minutes, 4 bedroom
I wanted stairs in the house - not a ranch although I didn't rule it out 1005

Same here! Oh and taxes (not too high) were important. As for this house, we plan on it being a starter, so like Tanaholic said I'm making my list already for our next house!

Dining room ( We put in the dining room - while losing one bedroom - so now we have 3)
Open layout (We had to make it an open layout)

1) location location location. We have to live close to the LIE because my husband has a commerical van and can only travel on that parkway.
2) School District.
3) Two full baths.
4) large backyard.
