new baby mommies - diaper question

Hi! I'm just about done getting everything ready for Chat Icon - the last thing on my list is making sure I have enough diapers on hand.

I have 1 box of NB Swaddlers, and I anticipate taking diapers from the hospital too - I'm just curious about the # of diapers a NB is expected to go through in a day? He will be FF - I'm sure that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Also, if you could include baby's birthweight with # of daily diapers, that would help me gauge.

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

Sadie was 8lbs at birth.

The hospital put ALL babies in size 1. The nurses said they only use the smallers ones on the preemies.

I had a few packes of NB from my showers. I used those and then switched to the size ones. I actually didnt buy diapers for her AT ALL until she was like 4 months (and even then it was just a pack to bring to my moms) cause I used everything I had from my showers first. Even now, Im back to using the size 3's from my shower and diapers cakes.

If you didnt get any for your showers, I would pick up a pack, maybbbeeee 2.

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

DS was 8.7 and was FF. On average a newborn goes through about 10 diapers a day, figure a change every 2 hours, if not more.

Just stay with the one box of newborn size for now bc you never know how soon they will be in size 1s and its always sooner than you expect. I think one box is enough to have at home so you dont ahve to immediately run out. But wait until you meet your little one and see how big they are, and how big they will be when you go through the box of newborns.

I have a box of size 1s from my shower, but that's it.

I figured 1 box of each should be OK for now - just wanted to make sure Chat Icon

Thanks!

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

They go through a lot in the beginning - like 10 diapers/day.

Ella was 6-7 at birth, and wore NB for a few weeks. Size 1's and 2's for a month or two each. Erik was 7-10, so he was in the smaller sizes for less time. He's been in 3's forever now.

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

We never used NB diapers, straight to size 1, since DS was a little over 9 lbs at birth and FF. I would also say figure 10 diapers a day in the beginning, I think that was what I counted, on average. (I wrote down EVERYTHING in the beginning Chat Icon ) We also tended to move up to the next size on the earlier side, because the big poops were leaking up his back even though he was still in the size range given on the box.

You are SO close! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS was 6 lbs when he was born and he went through about 11 diapers a day in the beginning... He wore newborn up until he was about 9 weeks old. I took a ton from the hospital, so it wasn't too bad, but I would stock up!!

completely agree. emma never wore NB - i tried - but her butt was too big - while size 1's SWIM on her - so i fold them over. I'd probably make a billion dollars marketing and making size nb1 - not quite newborn but not quite 1.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's fine. Once your son is here BRU will be your new hangout - you'll be able to get diapers whenever you need (or at least that's how it was for me Chat Icon )

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

DS was 9lbs 10oz and was in 1's from the get-go. I had a pack of 1's on hand but didn't really buy until after he was here because wasn't sure which brand would agree with him best. I also took a bunch from the hospital. They used Pampers Swaddlers in the hospital so that's what we continued with until recently.

At the start, we probably were going through 10-12 diapers a day and he was BF.

ITA - DD was 9.7 and we used a jumbo pack of NB and then went to size 1 - we used around 10 a day.

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

DD was 6 lb 13 oz when she was born. She was in newborns until she was 6 weeks - she's really petite and will be 7 weeks tomorrow.
I wouldn't bother bringing diapers to the hospital - they will give you all the diapers you need while you are there and then at the end of the stay, they told us to take home all of the stuff in her drawer which included a package of diapers.

Re: new baby mommies - diaper question

SB uses Pampers Swaddlers in size 1. I took a bunch of those.

But I had an 84 count box of Newborn swaddlers at home and used them. Liam was 7 lbs at birth. I liked the way the newborns fit better than the size 1s so I saved the ones from the hospital. We then bought 2 more boxes of Newborns (84 ct) because we didn't have any others. I didn't get any diapers for my shower. Liam is one month today and our third newborn box is just about done and then we will switch to size 1s.

Just so you know Liam was 8lbs2oz last Thurs at the doc and the newborns are getting snug.

Sorry for the long answer! Hope that helps! Oh and I would get a big package of wipes too! We got the 512 ct box of Pampers Sensitive and have about 2 packages left (128). I like to have back up supplies though
