Re: 4 year old still not peddling, is he behind?
My 4 year old is an okay bike peddler, lol. He will do it if there is somewhere he really wants to go (ie, nearby pond to feed the ducks).
I bought this so that I could push him along on his bicycle, and I had him put his feet on the pedals. It helped him to sort of understand the motion of peddling while saving my back. It was totally WORTH the $20.
Good luck, and I totally wouldn't stress about this.

Re: 4 year old still not peddling, is he behind?
At 4, my dd could peddle. But they are also at an age where they get frustrated and give up easily. They become independent but want things to go their way the first time.
I'm sure he'a fine. And he'll get it in his own time

it's funny that you say he excels at everything. Just keep practicing, he will get it.
Theres always one....
Anyhoo, ds this too at first. He would tey for Ike a second, then want us to push him. That got old real quick. I just kept telling him no and to tey, he cried, threw the bike, cried some more and just in the last few weeks really began to pedal for real. Good luck.

4 year old still not peddling, is he behind?
My DS is 4 and also very bright and excels. And I have the same issue with his peddling and it is frustrating. I think he's lazy and just doesn't want to do it. His 2 year old cousin was even trying to show him to do it. I plan to keep working with him, not push him and maybe when his baby cousin leaves him in the dust he'll decide to try to catch up. Good luck!!

Re: 4 year old still not peddling, is he behind?
My DS is exactly the same way and he is 5 now. He just has little to no interest in riding a bike or his Big Wheels. I think a HUGE part of it is that we have no sidewalks here so when we go to the park, I never think to bring it until we get there so he has never really practiced all that much.

Re: 4 year old still not peddling, is he behind?
My DD is 3.5 and still doesn't fully get it...she'll peddle forward and then go back (which brakes the bike)--its a bike w/training wheels. We'll just keep working on it, it does get frustrating but then I let it go...we're trying to make it fun. I figure she will eventually get it, my DD sounds like yours, she gets things like toys, puzzles, games quickly...when it comes to more physical stuff, it takes a little longer.
Hang in there

Re: 4 year old still not peddling, is he behind?
DS is 3.5 and we've been trying to get him to pedal for what feels like forever. He had a trike and showed no interest. We'd show him what to do with his feet and he just either ignored us or was just lazy lol. We got him a big wheel thinking the trike was too small. Same. We got a bigger trike. Same. We got him a real bike with training wheels. Same.
Then suddenly one day a few weeks ago, he just decided to jump onto his big wheel again and took off down the block! Now he wants to ride everyday. We are still working on the regular bike but i think its more the bike than him cause we got a Tony Hawk that has a really long body (I blame DH lol) and he doesnt seem comfy.
I was getting really concerned too but I think they just do it when theyre ready. I thought he had muscle tone issues or something and was gonna call the ped. But all it took was time and patience. Your DS is fine.
