4 year old napping?

My four year old still naps. He doesn't fight it. He will lay there and talk to himself for a while. He goes to bed at 9pm and wakes up around 6:30am-7am. His nap is over 2 hours long. Just wondering if this is the norm? I have a 2 year old who naps at the same time so I don't want to ruin anything :)
He also is home during the day with me and will attend pre k in the mornings again next year. TIA

4 year old napping?

My 5.5 year old would probably still nap if I let him. LOL Unfortunately he would also be up until 11pm if I did let him nap. We took away his naps around 3 years old bc bedtime was getting to be horrible. If he's going to bed for you without a fight, he might really need that nap.

My son goes to bed around 8pm and wakes between 6:30 and 7am usually.

4 year old napping?

I think most 4 yr olds are done napping, but if he still needs it and it works for you, why not?
I'd suggest slowly cutting it out if he was going to FT school in the Fall, but since he isn't then I wouldn't do a thing.

crashing, Im a tiny bit older than 4 yrs and I still want to nap :). Im no expert but if its no causing an issue let it go. Unless you're worried something else healthy wise is going on that he needs so much sleep

my DS is 5.5. he napped until like 6 months ago maybe? I'm a SAHM, and i still put him in his room for 45mins/ an hour every day. he doesn't usually sleep anymore, but he has toys in there, etc. its more just because we're together ALL.THE.TIME, he's an only child and HORRIBLE about playing by himself.... so if i didn't get that break neither of us would survive Chat Icon
so he usually plays, talks to himself, etc in there until time is up Chat Icon since he doesn't fall asleep, he goes to bed pretty well at 8:30/8:45 and will sleep until almost 8 Chat Icon
i think some quiet time/down time is important, whether they actually sleep or not.

Re: 4 year old napping?

My dd is 4 and will still nap too. We try to align it with my 2 year old, so they nap at the same time. She gave it up for a little while, but now went back to it. Like a pp stated some days she just plays in her bed, but I still think she needs the down time.

My DS will be 5 on Wednesday. He would probably still nap if we let him but he would never go to bed at night otherwise. He sleeps 8-8 without any trouble so I don't want to mess with it. But if he is not giving you a hard time at night and he is not going to full time K in the fall, don't worry about it!

Re: 4 year old napping?

My kids have not napped in years lol but I think it depends on the kid

My friends kid naps and she's 5

As long as it doesn't disrupt bedtime, embrace it!

Day care still naps the 4 year olds, so I don't think it's strange.

This - in my son's daycare, about half of the kids in pre-k nap and half don't.

My sons stopped napping before they turned 4 because when they would nap, they would be up really late at night (until around 11). Since you don't have that problem - I wouldn't change anything!
