4 Month Old wont STTN

I have found that DS will only go 4 to 5 hrs max without a bottle at night, so that would be his first stretch and then he would go every 3 hrs after that, which means between 11 and 6, he takes about 3 feedings.
He only drinks 4 oz during the day every 3 hrs and sometimes cannot even finish the 4. At night I try to give him 5, sometimes he finishes, sometimes not..

He is gaining weight and ped says he is growing well

But When I read about other babies his age, majority of them seem to be sleeping like 8-10 hrs straight. I dont get it! What else can i do?

Will be starting oatmeal. Perhaps that will help?

No advice for you other than to say not all babies STTN at that age. DD woke up 3x every night until she was on 3 solid meals a day - around 8 months. Sometimes starting cereal helps though.

4 Month Old wont STTN

My DS just started STTN at that age but only a few nights here and there. He is 7.5 months and somethimes still wakes for feedings. Each baby is different and I am finding that each night is different for my DS.

And my DS never sleeps 8-10 hrs per night.Even if you add up all his sleep from when he first goes down.

Hang in there sooner or later they will all STTN.

Re: 4 Month Old wont STTN

Nothing.
My DD didn't sleep through the night until 7 months.
IMO they do it when they are ready- like any other milestone.
And every baby is different.
One day she just did it.
Cereal didn't help, extra formula didn't help- she wasn't waking from hunger I don't think.
She was just waking.

My first DD didnt STTN until about 13 months old. The more I researched it the more I realized that isnt that uncommon. My second DD does better (shes 8 months) but she stil wakes 1 or 2 times to eat. They both only had/have 4 oz at a time too. SOme kids just have smaller tummies and need to eat less and more often. Hang in there - it will get better. But I do think 4 months is still early!

Thanks for posting - my almost 5 month old DS isn't STTN regularly (he'll have one good night a week for the most part). It's good to know it's normal (DS 1 was a horrible sleeper so I really have no norm to compare it to).

All babies are different. He'll STTN when he's ready. My DS wasn't even doing 5 hour stretches at 4 months old. He was still waking at least 3 times per night to eat. He didn't STTN until he was 7 months old. Try not to compare your DS to other babies. He'll STTN eventually. Chat Icon

Re: 4 Month Old wont STTN

Dont worry and dont think your DC SHOULD be STTN at this point.

My first DS slept 6 hours straight from the first day home from the hospital. So he would only wake 1x per night. THen at 7 weeks he was STTN.

My second DS didnt STTN until 7m. He woke every 3-4 hours until about 4m, then slowly stretched it to more. It was painful I wont lie! But he wasnt ready.

Both kids were drinking 8oz per feeding by 8 weeks old, and both were on baby food by 4m (oatmeal and stage 1 jars). Both babies were over 9lbs at birth etc.

Every kid has their own timeline. My ped just told me to walk very slowly to get them when the cried. To give them a chance to soothe themselves. DS2 I didnt want to let CIO at first because I was afraid of waking DS1. But he started STTN on his own FINALLY at 7m.

GL!
