Re: 3rd tri girls - birth plan?

I'm not. I'm a big planner, but even I can't predict what is going to happen when I go into labor.

I definitely want an epidural, and my husband knows this and I will let my doctor know as well.

Other than that, I'll do whatever is in the best interest of my child when the time comes.

Nah, but i'm not really a planner anyway. I'm a go with the flow type person so i'm going to get as informed as I can (we decided to do the lamaze/birthing class) and just listen to my body and dr.'s on the day of.

Whenever I create a plan it never ends up going accordingly. So we decided to see what happens- you can never predict when you are going to be in labor and where you will be. I am praying that I make it to the hospital in time, and have the doc take care of the rest.

My plan is to go for as long as I can with as little intervention as possible - ie no meds, and hopefully no c-section. But I don't intend to write it down as I don't think there's any way to prepare really - we just have to see which scenarios come up!

I'm not, I don't expect to be able to adhere to a plan when there is so much uncertainity.

Nah, I told the doctor and DH I want an epidural as soon as I am in pain Chat Icon, and other than that, we'll play it by ear.

Re: 3rd tri girls - birth plan?

For me... I have nothing written down but I have had thoughts and ideas and conversations with my doctors of things I'd prefer and would like to try.

The way I see it... just because the word "plan" is used, does not make it carved in stone. Birth plans also get taken to an extreme thought of dim lights, incense and no medical intervention at times.

My ultimate birth plan, is a healthy baby and a healthy mommy. That's my "plan". That's in stone.

Sure, I'd love to labor at home as long as I can. Sure I'd love to go as long as I can without medical pain relief, be it 5 hours or 5 minutes. I'd rather not get an episiotomy. I'd rather not get a c-section. I'd like my mom to come in for a little support before my delivery. I do not want a mirror to see what's going on. I don't care what I'm wearing as long as my boobs are covered. I don't care what music is playing. I don't care if I'm showered and shaved in advance. I don't care if I poop on the table. I want no pictures or video of the glory shot. I want DH to cut the cord. I want to breastfeed as soon as we medically can.

If any or all of these go out the window in the first ten minutes then that's okay. That's my birth preference. I just want a healthy baby and a healthy mommy. That's my birth plan. Chat Icon

Re: 3rd tri girls - birth plan?

I have ideas, but I am really PLANNING on going with the "whatever happens, happens" approach. I want to stay home as long as possible, and go as long as I can without drugs. If I decide I need the epi- I will get it. I've never done this before, so I don't know what to expect!

This is my "plan" as well. But obviously will go along with what is best at the time.

Re: 3rd tri girls - birth plan?

I'm a HUGE planner - which is exactly why im NOT having one. i dont want to be sad when it goes out the window.

the only thing im really sticking to is the fact that I want FH to hold her first. I feel like ive had her for so long that I want him to have that moment to himself - and i wanna see him cry like a baby Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 3rd tri girls - birth plan?

I asked my dr. about a birth plan and he laughed and said the nurses will laugh as well since nothing ever goes according to plan so I guess I am going to wing it! Chat Icon

Re: 3rd tri girls - birth plan?

not at all. to me it's too controlling and if i was a dr i'd laugh at myself. you can't plan a birth. things go the way they are meant to go! you have absolutely no control over it. if you don't want an epidural, you tell them. they can't make you get one just like they can't make you NOT get one. (btw i found out, it's certain DRS that won't let you get an epidural after a certain time. my dr will let me get one at 10cm if i wanted) don't have a certain plan in your head because you might be dissapointed if it doesn't go your way
