39 weeks- update and questions

So I got back from the dr and just as I thought there is no change/progress. My cervix is still really high. Babygirl is head down and low though.No dilation or anything.

Now he told me that since I'm on Heparin, he doesnt want me going too far past my DD, so after my appt next Thurs, he wants to plan an induction.

I really want a natural birth and no interventions unless medically neccessary. They are going by my LMP for DD, but if you go by when I ovulated (and I know exactly when from my old gyno), my due date is Sept 22...so I really shouldnt be induced until after then.

He says it's so I know when to stop taking the Heparin, but the point of switching to Heparin was because it's in your system 12 hours only and they have something to reverse the med. Really dont want this induction... :(

What do you think?

Lovenox/Heparin girls are your drs going to induce if you go past DD?

What are some natural ways to get this babygirl moving??? I plan on walking more, yoga, squatting,sex...anything else?

My worry about induction (esp before my body is ready- not dilated/effaced), is that it causesmore intense contractions that lead to epidural and then can lead to c-section..and also the intense contractions can lead to baby being distressed.

sorry so long. needed to get my thoughts out..

Anyone have an induction and then go on to having a completely natural birth??

just my opinion...
i would never even think of going past my due date. I do not remember what you are taking lovenox for, but I have homozygous MTFHR C gene,most severe. going past due date is out of the question for me, no matter what.
Moreover, at this point we are planning induction at 39 w. well, i should say scheduled c section. I have other issues which put me into c section category. even though my ob is very aggressive with vaginal deliveries, my case is different, unfortunately.
i support your ob. you are on heparin and it is important to control your blood. i have to say of course, that i never planned unmedicated birth, so i do not know how you feel about possibly needing drugs. your decision. GL!

I have the same issue: homozygous MTHFR C gene.I never had a blood clot, but I had two miscarriages.

The thing is everything I have read says there is no concern for going past with what we have, especially if I'm not dilated at all.

Again, I feel like my real DD should be based on ovulation and that is Sept 22. My last period DD is Sept 15.

Did your dr explain why we shouldnt go past due date?

Mine basically said because it's better to know the date so that I dont take the Heparin 12 hours before, which I dont completely get since there's a med to reverse the Heparin.

In the end, I will listen to what my Dr says. I do trust him..I'm just a bit skeptical about really needing an induction, and don't want a c-section.

well, i do not want to scare you, but this mutation is the most severe. i also never had a blood clot, but had one mc before this pregnancy.
it is MY desire not to go over EDD, not my drs. If he suggested to wait and see approach, i would fight him on this. I do not even consider going past EDD.
as far as switching to heparin... my ob DOES NOT want to switch me, he wants me on lovenox and then off lovenox 24 h before scheduled c section. My high risk dr wants me on heparin, so i do not know what i will do, i still have time.
my ob is concerned about heparin negatively affecting platelets count and possible causing HELLP syndrome. he has a point. however, a lot of ppl are on heparin and doing fine.

make sure they monitor your platelets Very closely on heparin. insist on frequent blood tests.

Jax: not only are we due on the same day, but we have the same thing going on!

I went on Tuesday to my OB and she said I am not dilated at all and the baby is very high. She also said I am measuring on the bigger side, so she sent me to LIJ today for another growth sono/biophysical profile. When I was there, the doctor said everything looks great...my fluids, the heartbeat, the baby's breathing..etc. Also, she said the baby is measuring approx. 7lbs. 9oz., which she said is perfectly average/normal for 39 weeks. Then she said she thinks I am going to deliver next week around my due date.. even though my OB said my cervix is closed!

So, basically, anything is possible and I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us that we go naturally and don't need to be induced!

I've been in the same boat. At 40 w, I had zero progress. My doc told me he would give me 4 more days to o on my own and then induce or I could go in for a csection the next day. I was told that the further you get from you DD, the riskier everything becomes.

To be brutally honest, listen to your doctor. He/she has the experience and training here. Why risk anything? I understand wanting to do this without any intervention but the number 1 goal should be having a healthy baby and a healthy mom at the end. Whatever you need to do to get there, you do.

Your situation might not be ideal or letting things happen on their own.

I will listen to my dr; I guess I'm just annoyed that based on ovulation I'm really 38 weeks and EDD is Sept 22 not Sept 15, so I wish they would go by that since it's more accurate..

I don't have any of these issues but just wanted to offer some support! There is a med out there that neutralizes heparin overdose but it has to be given through a very slow iv drip so their concern is prob the whole time issue. If you had an early sono done between 5-8 weeks I was told that is more accurate at determining edd then ovation lmp dates are. I'd go by what your doc says! Good luck!

I would follow drs orders. In the end it doesnt matter how he/she is born, it matters if they are healthy. I had to elect at 6 cm dialated and 18 hrs later for my 1st dd to be a csection. For this one my dr wont even consider a Vbac. In the end I am just happy that everything was succesful. Dont get yourself worked up on having the "perfect" birth.
