Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
Interesting question...I dont think they make exceptions...
I just think of it as I get an extra year with DS before sending him to school.
I do knwo kids who went to private Kindergarden and then tested into 1st grade public school the next year.

I don't think they make exceptions. My god daughter's birthday is December 4th and she had to wait an entire year to go to kindergarten. HTH

Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
Depends on the school district. Some cut off in October, so a December birthday would probably not get in.

Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
Being one of the youngest kids in the class is hard. Also, with a boy, you might just want to keep him home a year and make sure he is ready for kindergarden. It is not a bad thing.

Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
Most districts will not make an exception. My best friends DD was born December 2 (the cutoff is Dec. 1) and was not allowed to register.
Personally, I feel the cutoff should be September 1.

Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
Our school district cut-off is December 31. DD's b-day is mid-December. She is only 2 now but I am pretty sure I am going to hold off a year and enroll her the following year.
I have researched this at length and even though she is very bright and EXTREMELY verbal so far I think she age be at an advantage if I wait.

Your little man will start school when he is 5 and will turn 6 that school yaear.
The cut off date is Dec 1st.
Same with Aviana; she is dec 16th.
I say 12/1 b/c you are connetquot district like us.
He will be in the same grade as Amelia and will meet in 9th grade..

Catholic school in LI also has a cutoff of Dec 1 for admission. I called. That way if a child goes back and forth b/w public and private in LI, the same rules apply.

Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
No, I don't think they do (at least in certain districts anyway). My friend's son was born Dec. 2nd and the cutoff was Dec. 1st and they wouldn't make an exception...

Actually, my understanding is that most catholic schools will accept students as long as they are 5 by December 31. In fact, most private programs do this. In addition, most districts will "test in", a december birthday.

I work at a catholic school, they DO bend the rules depending on how they test out and what their enrollment is

I think she means that generally speaking boys take longer to mature and therefore not all boys are ready as early as girls tend to be for the same social/educational situations.
I dont know how DS will be but I have seen it in boys I know, where a girl the same age tends to be more socially mature.
Hey lets be honest, most of us have used that "theory" as an excuse for our DH or past boyfriends or whatever so we have to be prepared for the same as moms of boys

Re: Kindergarden Cutoff dates
I'm pretty sure Bayport-Bluepoint's cutoff is 12/31. Or at least it used to be. I know someon who has a child born on 12/25 and she was enrolled for K at 4 (turned 5).
