Another tipping question: Newsday
We started subscribing to Newsday once we moved, and every month we get a gratuity envelope. I'm to say that we haven't done anything about it yet.
What do you tip for daily Newsday delivery?
When I lived on SI and my parents got the SI Advance, they delivered it to our mailbox (i.e., no throwing it from a car), and the paper carrier came by every week to collect payment for the subscription. We always tipped him/her (usually a kid) then. It was different though, b/c we knew our carrier and the work that he/she was doing.

Re: Another tipping question: Newsday
That's ridiculous. Yet another example of people getting tipped to do their job.
I think I'll start putting a tip jar outside my classroom door--I'm an excellent teacher, I think I should be making some money on the side...

I pay for my local paper via credit card and they have an option to give a monthly tip. as well. I do and just give a lower tip at the holidays than I would normally.

Re: Another tipping question: Newsday
I tip the paper carrier every other month as well as Christmas. We've always had really good service and having to get up at some ungodly hour of the morning to deliver the paper, come rain, snow, whatever, is a really sucky job IMO - so I want to give a little extra reward to the person that has been so consistantly doing it day after day. I've been giving the equivelant of $1.00 a week, and usually $10 at Christmas.

He gets tipped on our CC - supposedly. I truly wonder if they get it considering we get the tip envelope as well. I send him an extra $25 every 3 months or so and at Christmas.

When we subscribed we got a gratuity envelop every other week as a "reminder". I never gave a tip because it annoyed me.

Re: Another tipping question: Newsday
We get that all the time & I don't tip either Back in the day when we use to have the delivery boy come & collect payment my parents would tip. Our delivery person is an older man & I am sorry, there are many of days when I need to search for my paper..

We don't tip. If the paper wasn't in the street, in the curb or under the car most mornings we might tip.
