$30 to watch a movie at home. Would you do it?
DIRECTV this week is likely to launch a Video On Demand service that would charge $30 per viewing of movies made available 60 days after their theatrical release and at least one month before their DVD or Blu-ray launch.
The question of the day? Would you pay $30 to watch a movie on your TV 60 days after it was released in theaters?

No way. I might consider it if I was able to watch it at home INSTEAD of going to the movies (sure would solve my babysitting problem) but sixty days AFTER? If I have already WAITED sixty days, then what the problem in waiting another month for it to come out on DVD or on demand?

No- in fact DH and I gave up cable and Netflix because both were a waste of money. Now we borrow from the library- the selection is great and FREE. In other words, we have such a backlog of movies we want to see that we wouldn't pay $30. I'd rather go out to the theater.

And for me, I think $30 is a little much. $20 seems to be a better price. 60 days just seems so long. 30 days sound much better for that price.

No because if I'm going to pay that much I want it on the big screen with the "movie" experience - the comfy seats in the Directors Hall at Island 16 and my popcorn.

No way. We still have the 2-movie $6/month Netflix plan that they don't even offer anymore. I'm cheap about movies. Although we DID splurge on HBO just for the next 2 or 3 months... solely so we could watch Game of Thrones, lol!

Same.. if it was a movie that I really wanted to see I'd throw a 'viewing party'. BUT NOT 60 days after release. I may as well just wait for teh DVD.
