3 year old - cough medicine?
Is there an OTC approved cough medicine for a three year old? He weighs 36 lbs

No, I don't believe that there is. Some people swear by a teaspoon or two of honey. It never really worked for my daughter. She had a really, really bad cough one time and it was keeping her up at night (she was 3) The dr did tell me to use Triaminic nighttime cough and cold and gave me the exact dosage.

There are "natural" medicine which has honey and herbs... I got mine in Target. Otherwise I don't think there is. I would give them lots of water and put a humidifier in their room

I use Honey Elixir by Little Remedies
There are SOME herbal cough stuff that I used but it either didn't work that great or she hated it.
Like PP, just use lots of water, humidifer and the honey to soothe. My doc also said tylenol to soothe the irration in the throat causing the cough as the cough, feeds the cough and can cause a throat infection (AJ got one once actually) which can move down and become a brochital infection.

Also- if the cough is from a post nasal drip you can do benadryl to dry it up!

When DD had a bad cough last fall, I got the ok to give her half a teaspoon of Children's Dimetapp (original) during the day OR Children's Delsym at night.
I would call the ped and ask

Our ped said Benedryl or children's mucinex when ds had a post nasal drip cough this winter.

no. my ped said there are studies that show a tsp of honey is more effective than over the counter cough meds.
i'd try that first.

yep I use the chewable Claritin when Lara has a cough. the liquad is God awful LOL
