3 pit attacks in 2 days.

It makes me sad. These loser owners raise these dogs to be mean. Gives The breed more of a bad rap and it's not the animals fault

NOW 5 dogs have or will be put to sleep! Chat Icon

One was an elderly man who was in his back yard and 2 unleashed un tagged dogs came in his back yard. He lost his leg.

Another was a 3 year old who was attacked by 2 pits who were send in by a boyfriend of the mother to attack for retaliation.

The third was a pit who attacked a fire fighter who entered a house. The news says "the dog attacked the firefighter because it was unleashed" WELL My dog isn't leashed in my house?
Thank GOD the victims lived

Mayor Bloomberg, Commissioner Frieden/NYC Dept. of Health, NYCHA Commissioner Hernandez and City Council Members are to blame. There is no law enforcement in NYC pertaining to animals. Rabie and license law not enforced. It is mandatory spay neuter in public housing and it is not enforced, these are breeding grounds for litters and fighting.

Re: 3 pit attacks in 2 days.

this is so sad.

i love the breed and its more often they attack another ANIMAL then a human, and i agree bad owners are to blame in many if not most accounts.

it just makes me sad cuz i tried doing the right thing, and i adopted pit from shetler (whom i was told got along with otehr animals). she ADORES people (acts like a total cat, rubbing into your leg and burrying her ace in your lap) but HATES other animals and turns into 'cujo' when she sees one. this wasnt/isnt MY fault. i didnt teach her to do this. either she was taught from her previous owner and or its in her blood. so incredibly sad.

IT gets me so Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon what these losers do to their pits, then the idiot chorus calls for breed bans, as they are now doing (again) in NYC. So great, ban pit bulls, then you'll have losers breeding Rotties, dobermans and GSDs for aggression. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Pits are some of the SWEETEST dogs by nature, they are SO unfairly blamed. ANNNND why is it that in the first incident with the 2 pits and the elderly man, neighbors had been calling and reporting the owner for MONTHS over his aggressive dogs, it makes me sick, this was a preventable tragedy, as most of them are...

I hate hearing that. It is so unfair to the dogs.... dogs are what you train them to be!!!
Sometimes I think maybe it should be illegal or you need special permits or something to get a PitBull or other large powerful dogs just to the wrong people don't get their hands on them!

Re: 3 pit attacks in 2 days.

i have a 200 lb. Mastiff who is a complete mush and VERY well trained. She is never walked off a leash. I have a 6 foot fence around my yard, yet I still don't feel comfortable leaving her unattended. If she wanted to get out, believe me she could. If I have people in my home (repairmen, delivery men, etc), she is ALWAYS leashed and held back. You never know. Even though she is well trained and reacts on command, I still feel there is major responsibility in owning a BIG dog. There is no excuse for an unleashed dog.

Re: 3 pit attacks in 2 days.

I have a pure blood pit and she is nicer then just about any of my friends dogs. This kind of thing just gives the breed a worse name. Unfortunately it is in the training that the animals attack humans. That is TRAINED and it makes me sad that these dogs will be or have been put down for doing what they were trained to do Chat Icon
