What a rip off!! I have to pay to register my alarm with Nassau County?!?
Last week the alarm went off in my house and my alarm company ADT dispatched the police dept. I got a letter in the mail today that we have a "violation". We have to pay a $75 fine. If I register my alarm for $75 the fine will be waived. If I do not register my alarm they will place my house in a "no response mode". I pay over $12,000 in taxes...and I have to pay to have the fvcking police come to my house if my alarm goes off $75 isn't alot of money...but it is the principle that really annoys me.
ETA: This is the 1st and only time my alarm has ever gone off and the police have been dispatched.
I've never heard of having to pay to register your alarm or the police won't respond if your alarm goes off. I thought that was the whole point of having an alarm

this rule was put in effect in nassau, i think its bull too but i'm sure there are plenty of people that do have false alarms all the time.

Yup, that happened to us too when we first moved in and I accidently set it off.
I have to ask DH if we renewed the permit, I vaguely remember getting a renewal notice in the mail......

Yep, we had to pay for a permit. Slomin's told us about it when they installed the alarm, shame on ADP for not telling you!

That's insane....
did you inform your homeowners that you have the alarm??? you can get a credit off your homeowners insurance. Maybe that'll help lessen the blow...

I know my parents are registered with central station, and even if their alarm goes off more than 3 times (by accident) they get charged. It's BS

Re: What a rip off!! I have to pay to register my alarm with Nassau County?!?
I used to work for Slomins in the alarm dispatch center. I always thought they fined someone after a certain # of false alarms in a specific time frame. It was so people who are notorious for falses to call to get the alarm fixed instead of letting it go off and wasting people's time.
That being said, I worked there over 2 years ago, so maybe they have changed the rules.
It's just annoying that they are fining you after one time. That doesn't seem right. Call customer service for your alarm and ask them what the rules are. It's also dumb that the alarm tech doesn't tell you these things when they install it.

Yeah unfortunately you have to register your alarm - ADT should have told you that - I know when we were looking it was the first thing the alarms companies told us we had to do.

Our alarm company had never told us we had to register but one of our neighbors did. Even before we had permit, we had many false alarms & the police never came (central station always got us first).

We had to pay for the house and fire alarm. I believe it is just a one time fee.

I registered my alarm and didn't have to pay.
If you registered in Nassau you paid, if not let your alarm go off and you will pay 25 dollars per alarm until you pay.

I didn't pay and I registered it. My alarm has gone off 3x and all times no police. Twice was due to Optimum. Once because my cat set it off.
Wonder what that's about!?
