Re: Obama's Pastor: U.S. to Blame for 9/11

And the worst part is even after that speech, Obama named this pastor as part of his religious counsel.

We have some serious issues here with Obama and his choices, IMO.

my heart and mind are seriously at battle...on one hand, I'm Chat Icon and feel like - if he damns america so much, why doesn't he just go live somewhere else? Chat Icon

on the other hand - i have to admit, that last part made the hair on the back of my neck stand up:

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

"....and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.

I understand why we did what we did, and why it took so long to react to Pearl Harbor, but approximately 70,000 innocent people were killed with that single atomic bomb in Hiroshima, nevermind Nagasaki. Japan got their 9/11 and then some 63 years ago. Chat Icon

Remember the Pastor Blames the US for 9/11 and not Obama.

Also I recall a lot of people blamed Bush for 9/11.

Yes, but why would he select him to be one of his advisers? It's one thing to attend his services, it's another to actively seek out his advice.

And there are some of us who think that the Clinton administration could have done more on their watch to help prevent it.

i truly believe that the way he preached was to get the congregation riled up... and maybe if he had stated how he felt with less drama and rhetoric, people (who weren't there) might be more inclined to listen.

but the fact is, he's not entirely wrong. the US has done FAR worse to other countries in the past... not that WE made 9/11 happen, but we certainly didn't endear the middle east to us either with our foreign policy.

Obama's press spokesman Bill Burton said, "Sen. Obama has said repeatedly that personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church. Sen. Obama does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms.

He seeks out his religious and personal advice. Not his political advice. From what I've read Obama is a proponent of the seperation of church and state. His policies are not based on his personal, regligious views.

But considering 9/11 was carried out based on religious beliefs of the terrorists, then can you really seperate church and state? Riddle me this.

Re: Obama's Pastor: U.S. to Blame for 9/11

Even worse I saw a segment where this pastor is screaming about racism, and how Hillary doesn't "KNOW" b/c she has never been called a Nigg#$!

This guy is trying to play the race card by riling up the congregation, talking about Hillary and "white" people. How can this be good for us as a "whole" country if this is a man Obama admires?

This man has some serious issues so Obama choosing to have any association with him by choosing him to be his "religious" advisor has to make people question why Obama would pick this man to represent him in any fashion.

No he doesn't have control over what this pastor says, thinks and believes. He DOES have control over who he picks as his "religious" advisors to represent him and his campaign.

Yes I realize that completely--but I feel like sometimes people are trying their absolute hardest to spin these stories to make it seem as if OBAMA believes them...from the garbage about his name and where his family comes from to saying what this Pastor said.

He can be a spiritual advisor to Obama but still have certain political beliefs that are totally different from Obama. They don't have to be lumped together.

And honestly--what this pastor said is something that many people have said---as well as saying that Bush was to blame---or Clinton was to blame---or whomever. The pastor has a right to say what he believes....and if that is what he believes...so be it. Obama is not standing there saying "I AGREE!"

That is why I have issues with stories like this---its just another way to smear it up.

I'm not for or against Obama--I still am undecided as to whom I will vote for, but I just don't like seeing this stuff.....its like trying to make someone guilty by association.

That is sadly the way a campaign goes. Things will be said, some true, some not true. Why does everyone feel the need to defend Obama and justify when he does/says something questionable (when some of it indeed actually may be true or may need to be questioned)?

He is guilty by association in this case I believe.

This man, this pastor, was screaming all this about how we are guilty for 9/11 just a few days after the attacks. That is a real POS IMO when families had family members still missing in the wreckage, were in shock still over what had happened, family members lost loved ones, etc. What kind of insensitive animal is this man and HOW can you respect a man who says this (Obama respecting the pastor)?????

To even imply ANYONE deserves to die b/c of actions of our country is horrific, and insane. And Obama's association with him, Obama looking up to this man has to be questioned, before we choose him to run the same country that his "associates" think asked for 9/11 to happen and deserved it based on past events of our country.

Wait, I thought Obama is Muslim. What's he doing seeking religious counsel from a Christian pastor?

Re: Obama's Pastor: U.S. to Blame for 9/11

these political spins by the media...to get everyone riled up. leave such a bad taste in my mouth.

they are doing this to Obama today, just like last week Obama used Clinton's "evasive" answers about a running mate against her. with his whole I'm a leader you have to choose thing.

it's stupid. all of it.

I will say this though. there is no doubt about the horrors we inflicted on Japan. I went to Hiroshima. I saw the spot on the bridge. I went to the musuem. I "talked" as well as I could with the Japanese school children there.

millions of lives were lost throughout the course of WWII. it was believed at the time ONLY a decisive move made by the US would stop the war in the Pacific. it was believed that the Japanese would NEVER back down.

when we dropped those bombs we saw what destruction really is. the whole world saw it.

and based on that, we, as a world community have tried ever since then to make sure we NEVER have to resort to such horrific measures again.

we were not at "war" with Afghanistan when it housed the Taliban and protected Bin Laden.

If anyone deserves to have "beef" with us, or visit our sins upon us, its Japan. but they didn't...b/c they have learned as we have that in war, no one truly wins.

If blood will flow when fresh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrows rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetimes argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

i see your point

but, i look at it this way

Obama is running for public office, which means you have to present yourself personally and professionally to the best way you can.

Obama may not agree with it, but wouldn't you think that since the two of them are linked together, and since alot of Americans are extremely patriotic, it might be a good idea if he distanced himself from the guy, or at least responded?

Geraldine Ferrara made a statement that Obama was getting support because he was African American, and Hilary came on and apologized.

Has Obama addressed these yet? Because if he doesn't, it would appear that he endorses it, even if he doesn't.

Even if he says, I don't agree with him, but he has a right to his opinion and I support freedom of speech.

none of this was proven. why would we want another clinton in office?? Why did we let Bush run for 2 terms??
Hillary would be the best person for president. End of story. Stinks she's not going to be.Chat Icon
