20 month old not talking 20
He was a month early but still shouldn't he be talking? He understands everything we say and is spoiled in this house with grandparents plus us, we know what he wants and he gets it within reason! He has said many word s once but hewe think but he never repeats them he does seem to say bus and truck we and he hardly waves but sometimes. He kisses hugs follows directions feeds his doll etc but doesn't even say mama or dadda but knows who's who! Dr said wait till 22 months to call early intervention he is now in toddler room and all those kids talk! Maybe he ll pick it up now?
Edited tadd he did babble has baby and now makes noise like he is talking but makes no sense to us

I would call EI. My ds was late with his first words but now they are coming fast. He was 3 weeks early so I always gave him a little bit of time but I would call by now. Can't hurt.

Can't hurt to call. My dr. wanted me to wait until 15 months to have DD evaluated for PT. I called at 13 months on my own and she qualified. The therapist wanted to know why we hadn't started sooner!
If he doesn't qualify at least you'll get their opinion on how he's doing, some tips on how to work with him, and then you can always have him evaluated again at 2.

Re: 20 month old not talking 20
Honestly, I would call EI. Our ped kept telling us that it was a normal delay and we kept waiting (even though we kept reporting that he was behind, even when he started talking). Finally when he got to nursery school, his teacher said we should get him evaluated. He is terribly behind and now gets speech 3 days a week. It's much harder now that DS is older, I wish I had just had him evaluated earlier when I was worried.

Re: 20 month old not talking 20
my son is 20 months old and we had him evaluated. He didn't qualify. He says 3 things and 2 of those things he rarely says.
He understands everything you say to him.
He scored a 77 which is a moderate delay. He needed to get a 70 or below for a severe delay to get services trough EI.
We are now going through our insurance for it because I think it's completely necessary. Even the 2 evaluators have said pretty much the same thing, even though they couldn't outright say that to me. Unfortunately funding is tight and the guidelines are very strict now.
