2 1/2 yrs old and a hunger strike???
My DS is 2 `/2 and he is normally a great eater... He got a bad cold 3 weeks ago and since he really hasn't been eating much, maybe 1 meal a day with 2 snacks. He used to eat 3 meals a day and 3-4 snacks. # different people have commented to me how he is looking skinny. I resolved myself to giving him anything he wants, but he asks for stuff and then doesn't eat it. He is averaging 1 meal and 1 snack a day with milk (obviously not enough)....
WHAT DO I DO??? I can't force him to eat. I am offering anything from cookies to cupcakes to milkshakes to veggie burgers, chicken nuggets (his favorite) nothing is working. today I made him 5 cix nuggets (his norm) and he ate 1
Please I know there has to be BTDT out there... advice please????

DS is like this all the time. I can't force him. If he is hungry he will eat.

Re: 2 1/2 yrs old and a hunger strike???
I recently went to the Ped and told her that DS really doesn't eat, but grazes. She told me, whatever I can get into him, give it, bc there is no reasoning with a 2 year old and they are picky.
Don't worry, he'll grow out of it, just keep offering food. My go to is cereal. If he doesn't want something, he'll always munch on a bowl of cereal.

O Dina we have another point of overlap with our boys :D Mine has gone from being a great (well at least consistent) eater to literally like 1 meal if that per day.
But he's been so healthy (first-ever stomach bug this week, threw up 2x, but otherwise OK) and I just can't figure it out.
I'm getting protein into him via edamame and other beans, and the occasional slice of cheese. He simply won't touch MEAT of any kind , won't eat bread, nor pasta, nor soup.
Stressful.

Janine, I have been giving him whatever he wants but 90% of the time it is cookie, m&m's etc.. and i feel like he is training me! We are talking about almost a month now. I dont want him to fall into bad habits especially with my diabeties and family history of it as well

Oh, our long lost twins are at it again?!?! I swear they must be communicating telepathically! Hope Shane gets over the BS soon, because a month later you are ready to literally shove food down their throats!

Re: 2 1/2 yrs old and a hunger strike???
DS went thru this and DD is 2 and 3 mo's and its starting now, only wants to only eat junk...its so frustrating. I just know DS grew out of it (hes 3 1/2 now and will eat well, veggies, etc). I hear its normal for 2/3 year olds to not eat much of a dinner. Maybe try recipes that incorporate veggie purees...hide the nutrition. Or, buy the fruit veggie juices for now.
I think this is something she will outgrow. Just definitely keep offering healthy food, dont give in to just giving snack type food all the time. Even if you have to throw it out, keep making the 3 meals/day and putting it in front of them. I know its a waste if you know your just going to throw it out, but I really feel keeping the routine of the "meal" helps getting them back into the groove. good luck!

No advice but he will eat when he wants to. I thought he looked fine, but then again, look at my kid
I could always come over and put things on my plate. That worked for a few minutes!

Hey Dina you can call the ped but they'll likely just tell you to keep offering the healthy stuff... I've had some success with hiding good crap in smoothies - will Anthony drink one of those??
And as my sister reminded me yesterday, their stomachs are TINY, like the size of their fist, so remember it doesn't take too much to fill them up, kwim????
