1st Year Blood Work

I am taking DD tomorrow for her 1st year lab work. I have to take her to a lab since its the lead test and they don't do it at the Ped office. Is this a finger prick or a full blown drawing blood from her arm? I tried calling the lab and they close at 3 (wish I had those hours lol).

I'm starting to get nervous for how she's going to react!

THANKS!

Re: 1st Year Blood Work

They will draw from her arm. All the labs I have gone to are very prof and fast. I think it's better at a lab rather than a doctor's office bc they do it all day and know what they're doing. It'll go fast and the hardest part is having to hold your LO down. I think they are more upset about being held and having to stay still over the needle.
Finger prick to me hurts more than drawing from your arm.

DD's was done in office so it was just a finger prick. It was quick but not fun bc they have to squeeze their finger until they get enough of a sample. With a blood draw, at least once they're in there's no pain. If you have good people doing it, the arm is not bad at all.

1st Year Blood Work

Went to quest. It was harder on me than dd. I had to hold her and another nurse held her arm and another one took the blood. They were great and even started singing itsy Bitsy to help calm her
Edit was out if arm not finger prick

Thanks this is very reassuring. Has anyone been to lab corp? I've only been to quest for used but my insurance has us going to a lb corp.

I've used several labcorp locations for myself and never had an issue. I took DD to the one in medford and on two separate visits the same woman could not get the sample needed. It was rough. After that, I looked into where else I could go, brought her to Good Sam, and they were wonderful. There were at least three people who helped and made it so easy on DD and myself. I know plenty of people who didn't have an issue at the places like labcorp or quest but I would recommend calling to make sure they at least have two people present to help so you can concentrate on holding DC and they can worry about holding the arm and getting the sample.

It was a full arm draw. They had to stick one dd twice. I felt terrible. She screamed!! My othe dd cried for a minute and was fine. I had a video on my phone for them.

We did at the office and it was a finger prick. She was so interested in what they were doing and then extremely pleased with her band aid. I am so glad it wasn't from the arm!

Re: 1st Year Blood Work

you prob already went but we did it at the doctor's office and it was a finger prick. We played a video on my phone so he watched that the whole time and didn't even cry since he was distracted. Good luck!
