1st doctors appointment today (long)
Hey girls. Dh and I went to our first ob appointment today.
I hadn't been very happy with this practice the couple of times I've been to them while TTC and was considering changing doctors. I never did and then I got my BFP. So, we go in there today. The receptionist says to me, why are you here, you aren't due for an annual exam. I told her because I was pregnant and she didn't say congratulations or anything. Then the exam with the doctor didn't go any better. She didn't really acknowledge my husband or say congratulations. She did a sonogram. We were able to see the gestational sac but no heartbeat I am very hopeful that it is just too early.
Anyway, after the sonogram she asked if I had any questions and had one foot out the door the entire time I was asking her stuff. Honestly, I have learned more from doing my own reading and from you girls then from any information she has given me. The NP took blood and said they will call tomorrow to let me know if my progesterone levels are okay or if I need supplements (which she thinks I might)
We left the appointment and told my husband right away that I was changing doctors. As soon as we got home, I did some research and made an appointment with the Women For Women practice in New Hyde Park. I know some of you go there. I'd love to hear what you think about the doctors and the staff.
If you could spare some prayers that our little one is well and that we see the heartbeat at the next appointment, I would really appreciate it.
TIA!

Some drs. don't have any bedside manor. If you aren't happy with the practice - leave! There are so many wonderful Drs. out there that will take the time to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable.
As for your LO. I went to my first appointment when I was almost 7 weeks and we didn't hear a heartbeat. A week later I went back in and there it was! I am now over 21 weeks pregnant. You may not be as far along as you think and it is still early!!

Ya alot of doctors are very matter of fact and all business.
If you aren't happy then you should totally change!
as for the heartbeat it still could be too soon. Don't lose faith!

I'm sorry that your 1st appointment was such a disapointment!
I go to women for women- I have seen all the doctors in the practice but Dr. Sanders is my primary- but I love love love the nurse practioner Rosemarie Haase and also Dr. Nicole Bell
They have all been nice- the waiting times in the office are sometimes long though just to warn you- but I feel like they are very thorough and thats why

Re: 1st doctors appointment today (long)
I went to Women for Women for 10 years. I had to switch when I got preggo though because I live in Suffolk and it was just way too far to travel. I love that practice. I have never once felt rushed by any of the doctors. I have had many issues in the past and I felt like they have been nothing but helpful and nice. I was always able to get emergency appointments on the same day I called. I mainly saw the NP Rosemarie and i freaking love her. I actually miss her and wish I could go to her now that im preggo, I know she would be so happy for me! lol Anyhow, Their office is brand new and they have the most up to date sono machines as well. The receptionists could use a nice kick in the a$$ but luckily you only deal with them for a second or two. It is worth dealing with them.
I hope your next appointment goes better. I had a similiar experience at my first appointment (with a new dr out in suffolk) and left crying. I switched right away too!
ETA: I agree with the above poster, sometimes the wait can be long.. but I always felt it was worth it.

1st off I am sure your lo is just fine, sometimes it is just too soon for the heartbeat. When do you go back?
2nd if you are not happy or comfortable with the practice I would switch now. There are plenty of great dr's out there.
Good luck and keep us posted

Re: 1st doctors appointment today (long)
aw I don't know anything about the practice you are switching to but just wanted to say that that's really a bummer your doc didn't take time for you and good for you for switching. . it's all so exciting and to have her lack of time/care put a damper on it isn't right!!
and don't worry about the hearbeat I think so many people don't see it that early so hang in there!!!
but prayers for you and your LO!!!

Re: 1st doctors appointment today (long)
How many weeks are you? It's hard to hear a H/B early on & if you are on the heavier side it's also harder.

Re: 1st doctors appointment today (long)
You should go where you feel comfortable!! My receptionist didn't say congrats either when I called, until after the Dr. did a sono and saw something (if that makes you feel any better).
I hope you like your new Dr.! Good luck!

Ugh, so annoying! I am glad you are switching doctors this early...you will be glad you did!
We didn't see a HB at our first appointment either...actually, we didn't even see the second sac that first appt!
I will keep your LO in my prayers and hope you get to see that flicker soon!

Re: 1st doctors appointment today (long)
I'm glad you're changing doctors...I would not want to go somewhere that I am not happy. If it were just one person or something, then you could just 'ignore' their behavior. But if it is everyone, then yeah, definitely get out of there. If you don't like the doctor, then especially leave!
I can't give you any info on the doc, since I'm out in Suffolk, or on the heartbeat on the sono, since I'm not that far yet...but here are and that you find a doctor that you like and all goes well!!!!
