16 week appointment question/survey
Just out of curiosity, how many of you had ultrasounds done at your 16 week appt? If you didn't get one, what did they do? Is there another blood test? And if you did get one, did you find out the gender?
Thanks!

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
I didn't have a sono at 16. Just bloodwork. I believe they took a lot of blood for that one too.
Eta: my sonos were 9w, 12w, 20w, 30w, then I had my last one at 35 to check the babies weight.

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
My OB does a quick sono at every appt- so I got one.
I also had blood work done (the Quad Screen) that was supposed to have been done at or scheduled for the week after my Level 1.
Normally, I don't think the 16wk appt is anything more than a regular check up

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
I didn't have a 16w appt but I do have a 17w limited anatomy scan on Monday. No mention of bloodtest. When I don't have sonos, it's just a regular visit and we listen to the heartbeat. If the baby cooperates, we CAN fid out the gender but I am

16 week appointment question/survey
I didn't get a sono for 16w. They checked my weight, BP, and his heartbeat. They took some blood for the Anatomy test. They also went over the NT Scan results (there was nothing but I asked).

16 week appointment question/survey
So far I've had sonos every 4 weeks, but I had low PAPP-A and 2 soft markers at the NT Scan so I'm being monitored more closely.

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
I had bloodwork and a full anatomy scan (my OB does an anatomy scan at 16w and 20w). We found out the gender and got some great 3D pictures.

Hi-- what is a 17w limited anatomy scan? Just wondering if this is diff than an ultrasound and why they wouldnt do it at the 16w appt instead of making you return the next week. Just curious!!

I didn't have a 16 week appointment, I had one at 14 weeks so I assume it was probably still too early.

16 week appointment question/survey
oh ok thanks! I really really want to find out the gender at my next appointment but I know some doctors don't do sonos at 16 weeks. They never told me if I was getting one or not so I guess I'll wait and see. (It's not until May 22) I have my brother in law's wedding the following Sat and we were hoping we could put in the card "Love Rob, Alyssa, and your future niece/nephew" as a fun way to tell them!

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
My dr doesn't do sonos at 16w. Just blood for the AFP test. And listening to the heartbeat.
However, the sono girl told me if she's in that day to ask and she would try to fit me in for an early gender guess. But since DH can't come to the appt I'll probably just wait for the anatomy scan.

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
I don't have a 16 week appt scheduled, I have a 17 week. I was told blood work and doppler for heart beat. Then I will do my anatomy scan and fetal echo (I have a heart condition so we have to do a fetal echo) sometime in the 19-22 week range.

Re: 16 week appointment question/survey
I had an anatomy scan at 16 weeks, but that's because in our last pregnancy our daughter had a brain malformation and 2 heart defects. I remember wanting sonos all the time last pregnancy b/c they were "fun" to see the baby, now every sonogram takes on a whole new meaning for me.....checking the health of my child is my only concern, I don't even care if they give me printouts at the sonos anymore, I am just happy when I can leave with good news, unfortunately this is the reality for every woman who has dealt with losses (sorry to be such a debbie downer!). So for those who are bummed at not having more sonos, just know that that usually means your OB doesn't have any cause for concern, so hopefully that's some comfort if you're not having as many as you'd like.

This word for word.
At almost 24wks and after numerous losses, including one at 17wks, I just am SO relieved to find out the baby is healthy and so relieved that I get so many sonos (weekly at this point!) where I get to see the baby and get the reassurance I need to last me till the next appt - but I was also in preterm labor a week ago. I wish these appts weren't necessary and WISH I only needed like 4 for the pregnancy like a normal person!!!!
ETA: also wanted to put out there for the OP that yes at the 16wk appt it is possible to find out the gender. In my first pregnancy, amongst other information at my 16wk appt, we found out we would have had a boy. In this pregnancy we knew early because of genetic testing, but we also had it confirmed on the sono at 11wks. There was NO mistaking it, definite obvious boy lol .
