Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame?

I love my DH so much I am planning a trip to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame he has been dying to visit!

Is there anything else interesting to do around there, or on the way? Recommendations for places to stay or eat?

I went to college in Oneonta. Honestly, there is not much to do, but if you plan some picnics, there are beautiful state parks in the area to visit

I'd stay in Cooperstown - historic, homey and a nice area, plus there is the lake to visit. The Museum will take you a day to go through. Usually in the summer there are training camps in the area that you can stop in and watch.

There are plenty of places to go apple picking, strawberry picking, etc.

I think that Saratoga Springs is only about a 40 minutes drive from Cooperstown. That would be fun - go to one of the horse races.

I think there is some sort of cave (Howe Caverns?), not too far from there. The town of Cooperstown is cute to walk around too. There are some cute restaurants in town. I don't remember the name of the one we ate in, but it reminded me of a newspaper (with its design).

How long do you plan on being there? Growing up, DH went every year and I finally went with him last year. We stayed 3 days.

There are lots of baseball shops in the area, plenty of baseball games going on (Doubleday park is the largest and nicest stadium in the area - free to sit and watch) and a few parks and a lake there. DH is big into baseball so we spent the 3 days in Cooperstown.

Unfortunately, we didn't eat in any really great restaurants that I would highly recommend. We mostly ate in small places along the main road. There was one that was good and I believe it was the Lake Front Restaurant. Doesn't look too fancy but you can sit outside by the water and the food was pretty good.

Thanks! I was thinking a 3-day trip total, but perhaps with a stop in Saratoga going or coming. DH loves baseball, but it would be fun to mix it up with parks!
