1.5 Year Old Ring Bearer

DS will be a ring bearer at my sister in laws wedding in a few months- he will be 17 months by then. All immediate family will be in attendance - not only my DHs family but also my parents and grandparents, who are all his typical babysitters when we have something to do at night (he attends daycare during the week). DH and I are in the BP as well.

Since this is an all day affair, I feel like I really need to map out the logistics of how this is going to work with DS. The biggest part is the reception itself - cocktail hour is at 7:30. I might have him hang around until introductions into the ballroom, if he can hold out that long, but then I don't want him staying for the reception, and it is an adults only reception. It isn't over until 1:30 am and he is just going to overtired. So I am leaning towards hiring a babysitter to be with us for a majority of the day - so that she can take him to nap back at my house if he needs one while we are getting ready or taking pics, etc. But as for the night time - has anyone been in this situation before? Did you let your DC sleep in the bridal suite, have someone set up in a hotel room, take DC home? Lend them your car and carseat to take DC home? Very confused here. Thanks for any help.

DS was 7 months at my sister's wedding. We had a babysitter all day who could take him to nap, play, etc. We set up a PnP in a room provided (it was at a synagogue so not the bridal suite but another room) and my nephew who was 19 months and DS went to sleep there with the babysitter when they got tired. I was nursing so we wanted him close in case he got hungry. Worked out fine!

We are in a very similar situation this spring, as of now the plan is for DH's friend to pick them up from the reception using our car . Not sure if we are going to have our car just waiting at the reception hall (leaning towards this bc I am not sure how I feel about them on the bus), and since it is a couple babysitting one can drive to the hall and one can take our car back to our house with the kids, or we might just drop our car off at their house during the day so they can just use one car for the handoff.
Everything is very local so that helps.

We also had the option of having a babysitter in the bridal suite but I feel like no matter who that was I would end up stepping in if they were fussing or being difficult.

My DS was 18 months and a ring bearer at my SIL's wedding. We were both in the wedding. It would not have been possible if my parents were not around. We both had to be up at the crack of dawn. My parents got him dressed and to the church so he didn't need to be up so early. Then they drove him home towards the end of the reception.

My DS was 9 months old when my sister got married. We hired a babysitter who stayed home with him while we were getting ready. Then the men met us and brought the babysitter and DS to the wedding. He was with us for pics and parts of the reception. He stayed in the bridal suite with the babysitter during the ceremony and slept there when it got late.

DH and I must be crazy because my DS has been to 3 weddings (17 months, 2 years old and 2.5 years old). We have never had a babysitter for him (although our parents helped out) and he went to the entire reception.

When he was 17 months old, only my DH was in the wedding. DS slept en route to the ceremony. He partied hard and fell asleep at 10 - his normal bedtime is 7:30, sharp!

When he was 2 years old, only my DH was in the wedding. Again, DS took a power nap enroute to the ceremony. He then fell asleep again as we drove to the reception. I hung out in the car for a bit with him and then we went into the reception. I had to be there by 4:30 for family pictures. He passed out in his stroller my SILs' arms around 9:30 and then slept in his stroller for the rest of the reception.

When he was 2.5 years old, we were both in a wedding. I went and got ready with the other BMs and my DH got ready for the GMs and my dad and brought my DS. My mom and dad then drove all the grandkids to the wedding and my DH took the limo. My DS initially sat with my parents during the reception, but eventually made his way over to my DH and then to me. After the ceremony, my parents drove all the grandkids to the hotel. They all fell asleep in the car. After unpacking the car, they headed over the reception. My DS attended the reception and fell asleep in his stroller around 10.

No, you're definitely not crazy, I just created a monster who needs perfect silence and darkness and a crib to sleep. If he were at the reception there's no shot he would sleep in his stroller. Otherwise I would totally go that route and eliminate all this nonsense lol

For my wedding my nephew was 20 months. He just hung out with my brother who was in the wedding. we put his car seat in the limo and he just was with us all day. It was a kids friendly wedding. My nephew ending up just passing out mid reception, face down in his stroller.

When my brother and I were little and in a family wedding I remember we just went back to a relatives house when the reception started. I think your best bet is to have a babysitter bring him home.

That's usually my son too. There was at least 15 minutes of stroller rocking In a dark space away from the reception to get him to pass out. We didn't have another option though as we didn't live locally.
