12 week blood work vs afp test????
can anyone explain to me the difference??? I recently had my 12 week nt scan and blood work, dr called and said everything looks "WONDERFUL" just wondering what does the blood work for the afp test look for??

AFP is considered 2nd trimester screening where NT boold is considered 1st tri screening

12 Week NT is both an u/s and a finger stick blood test. The NT measures the folds on the back of the babies neck for downs. The blood part is for trisomy 18 and 13. The 16 week AFP is a vial of blood to test for downs, and trisomy 18 and 13. Some girls do get a 16 week u/s but that is not standard for every doctor.
