my soon to be 1 yo does not want to try table food at all. Make him pastina, and he'll turn his head away. Any type of food that I cut into pieces, he'll just throw on the floor.

He only wants his jars (squash, sweat potatoes, fruit, etc.) but no table food.

And of course his formula.

I don't remember when my other kids started w the table food but I'm pretty sure it was before 1 yo.

any other kids like this?

Have you tried to mash your table food so that it's basically a thick purée? That may get him more used to eating your cooking. I have a cheap bowl and masher from Amazon that works really well. Nuk maybe?

If he continues to refuse anything other than purées, you may want to ask your doctor to see if he would benefit from feeding therapy.

My DS was eating regular table food by 9 months. I tried things like pastina but he preferred regular pasta. Maybe he'd prefer that.

Just keep trying. Whenever you guys are eating, offer whatever you're eating. Mash it up or cut it really small. It may just take some time for your LO. With my first, he ate purees for awhile (way past 1). I just kept offering regular food also and he eventually ate. With my second, she was grabbing food off my plate at 10 months.

This exactly. Just keep trying to put whatever you are eating in front of DC before giving a jar or a bottle while they are very hungry and eventually they will try it.

My kids hate the texture of pastina!

Much to my dismay, my DD hates pastina. I could eat it every day, even now at 31 years old!

She gets jars at daycare on rare occasion when I don't have anything substantial to send but she eats entirely table food (plus formula) at 10 months. I started with giving her large pieces to chomp on- quartered grilled cheese, waffles, silver dollar pancakes, broccoli spears, chunks of fruit. Once she got used to that I started with bite size pieces and she usually does great.

How about snacks? DD loves the HappyBaby snacks- yogis, puffs, rice cakes. I gave those to her pretty early on, too.

Re: 1 yo & table food

If he loves gerber puffs, have you tried Cheerios? Dd is 9 mos and has a bowl almost every day of Cheerios in whole milk. That was her first table food.

Just have to keep trying and don;t offer the purees with the table food. It is a huge change in texture for them and they have to get used to it but if you keep offering the purees they will always take it. Keep them completely separate.

I think it's all or none.
Mine had the opposite problem... she won't eat anything that is mashed or from a spoon.
I think it just takes persistence. Those jars are really fine... so stick with them while you can!

oh this makes me feel so much better!! So you kept trying and DD refused it until 15-16 months and then was ok with it?

Try table food that has more of a mashed texture, such as avocado, banana, very ripe peaches, roasted butternut squash, etc. and build up from there.
