Re: TTC...switch to DH medical insurance?
It depends on his company and what his insurance is. I work for a college, and my husband was only allowed TWO WEEKS after we got married to switch over to my plan. They don't even usually let spouses switch over (if their own companies provide health insurance), but I somehow found a loophole. It was good for us because DH is a diabetic and his supplies are now 100% covered under my plan.
I would check with HR because ever company policy and insurance policy is completely different.

Great advice. WHen DH and I were married I only had 30 days to put him under my insurance or I had to wait a year.
I say if you have the opportunity to go under his insurance, and you plan on going down to part time OR be a SAHM, just do it now so you don't go through the ringer later. Insurance companies are weird, sometimes there's a waiting period for the insurance to even take effect. So while TTC I agree that it's a good idea to deal with it now. What if you got PG and had to start doctors visits and tests, and weren't covered??

Re: TTC...switch to DH medical insurance?
Unless your DHs company is in an open enrollment period or you lose your coverage, I don't think you'll be able to just switch. Usually a qualifying event is required if it's not during an open enrollment (loss of coverage, marriage, birth).

Re: TTC...switch to DH medical insurance?
This will take some time to actually come into effect. As for pre existing conditions, that only pertains to people who have had a lapse of insurance covered for 62 days. So as long as you go from your insurance to Dh's within the 62 days you're good

Re: TTC...switch to DH medical insurance?
I too am planning on switching to DH's insurance once we have a LO. It's cheaper to have two individual plans than one family plan at this point. Didn't really think about when we would have to enroll to do this though.
