I voted for a little odd. I guess she just really likes the name, which is understandable...and as long as you weren't going to use DH's name I guess its no big deal...but for some reason., still a little odd.

I'm not so sure it's b/c she likes the name. I think it just bothers me b/c of the situation. She knows we lost a baby and are having a difficult time, so it's almost like salt in the wound.
I totally understand what your saying...and I think I'd feel the same. But at the same time I'd probably tell myself that she wasn't doing it in any way to hurt you or throw salt in the wound. I'd tell myself that she probably didn't even put herself in your shoes or look at it through your eyes and she doesn't realize. That would just be cruel!

ITA. Although I did not use it, I love my brother's name (William) and it actually never occured to me (until I saw your post) that I would need to discuss my choice of name for my son with my brother and his wife (if he was married!).
On the other hand, I can see why it would bother you.
Maybe she does not think anything of it.

Is that name in the family for multiple generations or just your brother? I'd find it less odd if it was also their dear grandfathers name etc...

I asked this question a while back... I think its very odd. I mean maybe if she was a cousin or someone more distant in the family but I consider it immediate family. Very, very strange to me. I cant imagine my sister naming her kid after me...

If it were me, it would really bother me that the option to use DH's name was no longer an option b/c of SIL (even if I thought I may not use it in the 1st place)...
can you tell DH how you feel? I think if he said he didn't like the idea he may agree w/you 100% and some how express that to his sister?

i dont know how i feel about this i have 2 brothers and love both their names. DH is adamant about naming our son after him if its a boy but if i had a second boy - i'd consider one of my brothers names (its also my grandfathers names). Maybe she just really likes the name?
