Re: My mom was crying
I am right there with you. I don't even take my mother's calls anymore...its too much. She doesn't want to celebrate Christmas this year, she can't see herself happy celebrating knowing her baby isn't with her.
It wrecks me. She is coming for a week in Dec(around my due date) then 2 weeks in Jan. She is ready to quit her job and stay for 2 months...my father is a wreck too..he doesn't know what to do with her. He flipped that I did not call home to say I wasn't hit by a tornado

Re: My mom was crying
Well I live very very far away and its not that bad, we have a webcam and talk on the webcam a lot. I also go home a few times a year and my parents come over, they are over this week as a matter of fact! I miss the support of a family around, but I have made it this far with the support of my friends, so I will carry on!!!

Re: My mom was crying
My parents live a few miles away from me, and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure they'll see the baby much either - they are too busy travelling and going out to bother with babies.... when the baby is old enough to go out to dinner or doesn't have to be lifted, bottle fed, or changed, they may take it out for a few hours....
I have been pretty much aware that this is going to happen - will save me from disappointment once the baby is here....

Re: My mom was crying
Oh I hear you. My daughter is 2.6 and my mother has been here once a year. We go home when we can, but it's fewer and fewer these days. My Il's come often. It's sad and we fianlly caved to his IL's and said we need them here. So they are moving
It's good in a way becase when people do come it's more focused on her and the visit. It's more quality time.

I have a very similar situation to your. My mom recently moved, 5 years ago, from LI to California. She has been there for most of her grandchildren and has been able to see my sister's and brother's children grow. She was able to be a constant in their lives. She isn't able to be this for Molly since Molly was born after she moved. However, when she does visit, she spends so much time with Molly and adores her. Even though it isn't as often, Molly knows Grandma loves her and thinks about her all the time just like your little one will know this as well.
There are some positives too. Since my mother comes to visit, she's able to spend ALL her time visiting with her grandchildren whereas if she still lived her, she may not be able to devote that much attention to them since there would be other responisblities she would have to attend too. She comes often and is here for all the important stuff.
Try to think of the good things and give you mom a big next time you see her.

Re: My mom was crying
My mom has gone through the same range of emotions. It is hard for her because my MIL lives here and is very active in our lives. My Mom sometimes feels like the 2nd mother and I really try to make her not feel that way. My Mom is getting us a webcam for Christmas too so that should give her some ability to connect. I always felt bad about it because right after my folks moved to PA, I got engaged, married, preggo and will have the baby soon. It has got to be hard on her not to be here with her daughter during all these "happy" times!
