Sex of baby!

I was just wondering how many of you plan on finding out, or already found out the sex of you baby? I'm just curious as to why you made your choice.

Re: Sex of baby!

We did not find out. I think its a gut feeling and a difference in personalities. It made so much sense for us not to find out, I was never even tempted.

But for others, it makes all the sense in the world to find out.

I wasn't concerned with the purchasing of gender specific things..mainly because I plan on having more then 1 baby, so a pink stroller won't do me very good if I have a boy next.

Do people who know the sex feel more bonded to their bellies then me? maybe, I have no idea.

I just always pictured finding out the sex at the time of delivery.

good luck!

Re: Sex of baby!

We found out and it honestly, it was the best decision we made.
I truly felt such a strong bond when I knew that I was having a little girl.

Re: Sex of baby!

We found out and it made life easier.
But we didn't get everything entirely pink..lol... I made sure some stuff was unisex (like the stroller, pack n play, highchair...) since we plan on having more kids. The bedroom firniture transforms into teen furniture so no matter what I will make her keep that for herself. It was a personal decision on our part.. you have to go with what is comfortable. DH wanted to know, I didn't but then I needed to know... so we found out. Chat Icon

DH wanted to find out, I didn't. He was pretty upset not to get his way in the beginning.

I wanted the added excitement of finding out that day.

This will be my only pregnancy (twins) and we are finding out because:

1. if they are the same gender then we'll do up evrything pink or blue. If not, green.

2. If we don't we'd have to pick 8 names... 4 of each, boy and girl, for first and middle. To be honest, as a 13 year teacher thre are very few names that haven't been ruined for me by "memorable" students.

3. I'm really not big on surprises... too much of a planner.

I so understand this one and my DH doesn't get it. I have been in Day Care for 20 yearsChat Icon I have some names that could never be on my list everChat Icon

Sorry to hijackChat Icon

I found out the first time with my son. I am so glad we did and wouldn't change a thing. At the time we were in an apt and it just made it easier to get everything gender specific.

This time we decided to be surprised. My main motivation was that we are having a scheduled c-section so the only surprise will be the gender. We have everything we need so I wasn't buying any new big ticket items anyway. If this is a girl I will need new clothes because we have a lot of blue and very boyish stuff (I actually had so much boy clothes I donated half of them to DebGChat Icon )

I think whatever decision you choose to make will be the right one for you.Chat Icon

My situation exactly. DH was understanding after a while. The anticipation is so much fun and I love surprises. I am carrying this baby for 9 months (and have been enjoying every moment) and I want a big surprise at the end. Also, I want DH to tell me "Boy or Girl" (if possible). I didn't want the tech to tell me.

Re: Sex of baby!

I can't wait to find out! Although I am good about keeping secrets, this is just too big. I can wait patiently for Christmas presents, but I need to know what this baby is. I am tacking on the time that I have waited to have a healthy pregnancy. That time plus nine months, is too long for me!

We chose to find out, and I am glad we did. I think pregnancy can be a long 9 months, even if it's a relatively easy pregnancy (like mine). I always feel happy to be having a baby, but I love the periodic rushes of excitement after our very first visit, after the ultrascreen, and after the Level II (and knowing that everything else is progressing well). Each time I was kind of rejuvenated and more excited.

I also wanted to do a really nice nursery, though we also aren't getting everything pink because we want to have another.

Re: Sex of baby!

I did not find out with Katherine and will not be finding out this time. I had too much fun guessing the whole time. We even video recorded all of our friends and family predicting and stuff...pretty cool.

I think it's exciting whenever you find out, but my reasons for waiting...

REALLY wanted the "typical" delivery moment surprise. And I wanted DH to have that "It's a GIRL!!!" moment in the waiting room.

Would be too superstitious to start calling her by name. We never called the baby "it," she had a nickname and still has the same one.

Don't buy that bonding thing (for me)...I bonded plenty and that's what the rests of our lives are for!!

Wanted a neutral nursery--will put the other children in there.

Personally, I thought the clothing situation at the shower was better. We got a bunch of neutral stuff and when she was actually born we were indundated with PINK! We got tons more clothes after she was born. I'm happy to have stuff for either gender now. Plus I know if it's a boy this time, we'll get a ton of BLUE!

Now that I know what that moment is really like in the hospital, would not trade it for a million dollars!

Thought it would be a way to get me through labor better; was wrong on that one Chat Icon

Re: Sex of baby!

We did not find out. I wanted DH to have that moment all to himself when he can announce it to everyone after the birth. Plus, it's been so fun and exciting hearing people's predictions! I am also glad that I got a lot of "neutral" stuff now and will get pink or blue later....I would hate to be inundated already with ONLY tons of pink or blue stuff!

Re: Sex of baby!

We decided to find out even though Dh didn't want to . I don't like big surprises and wanted to be prepared with clothing and the nursery etc. We also wanted to start clling th ebaby by her name right away, although that plan hasn't really worked since we can't decide on a name.

We are not finding out, even though of course, we are VERY curious about what the sex is. I just really like the idea of the anticipation and surprise on the day the baby comes... also we are not buying clothes or decorating the nursery until after the baby is born so gender doesn't really matter in terms of that.

Re: Sex of baby!

We found out with both pregnancies. Finding out I was pg both times was a surprise and not knowing when I'll give birth was surprise enough for me.
