prepping for TTC

Dh and I will probably start TTC in the summer. Should I be doing anything now to start getting my body ready? When do I start pre-natals? When should I go off the pill? I am really dreading my non-BCP AFs! Ugh!
I plan to go to my gyn in March for my annual and get her thoughts, but wanted to check with the "experts' first. Chat Icon
TIA

Re: prepping for TTC

I am planning on TTC in 2007.
The first thing I did to prepare was read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Very informative!
You may want to stop your BCPs in advance to have your body adjust. Some people will tell you its not necessary, but I am glad I stopped mine early because I am not getting my period or ovulating at all. Hopefully my body will be ready by 2007 Chat Icon I plan on using the fertility awarness method for BC in the meantime (info found in the book taking charge of your fertility)
You should also start taking vitamins regularly if you don't already. Your Dr. will give you a prescription for Prenatals, or you can buy the store brand prenatals. The prenatals make me sick, so I am going to stick with my Flintstone vitamins and take a folic acid supplement.
You can also try eating healthier and cutting caffeine.
Some Dr.s will do a blood test. My Dr. didn;t do one for me, but my friend who sees the same dr. had to go for one. I guess it varies for each person and their different backgrounds. Your Dr. will also ask you questions about your vaccinations.
I am also thinking about open enrollment in a different way this yearChat Icon and trying to choose the best plans for TTC/pregnancy.
I also lurk on here often to prepare and read a lot of articles online.
Last but not least HAVE FUN!!!!Chat Icon

Re: prepping for TTC

My doctor told me to stop BC 3 months prior to ttc. I started a daily multi-vitamin way before that though and prenatals when i stopped BC.

Re: prepping for TTC

I would recommend going to see a OB/Gyn and talk to he/she about your plans. They will start to prepare you for TTC or as they would say they will start you with preconception care.
