Spinoff to "Am I ready or am I . ."
How do you know when you are REALLY ready? I've been married for a year now and have serious baby fever. We went off BCP 3 months ago, and not really trying but not being all that careful either. We both really love and want children badly, and I don't think it is just the next stage in our relationship. But now, when I really, really think about it I freak out. I start worrying about that fact that I won't be able to be a SAHM and often leave for work at 7:30 and don't get home till 7:30 each night. And that we won't have enough money. And purely selfish things like giving up having dinner/drinks with my girlfriends every once in a while or sleeping in late and doing nothing all day, leaving my house a mess because I'm just too lazy to clean this weekend, or shopping and buying whatever I want. I guess I have this idea of what an ideal mother should be and right now I don't know if I am capable of being that person.
How did you all KNOW you were ready?

I don't think anyone will ever really be ready.
I know most people like to wait till the "right time" but the same thing goes there is really never the right time.
You just have to make the most of it.
I found out I was pregnant with my daughter less than 1 mth before my wedding. I was so happy yet I was freaking out. I didn't think I was ready to be a mommy. But you have 9 mths to prepare yourself and it has been the best 2 mths of my life. It's been so good that we are TTC our second.

you don't have to give all that up either. it may not be as often but grandma, aunts, siblings will love to take the baby for an hour or two while you have some QT with your friends.
My DH and I go out all the time and bring her. I go shopping with her by myself and it's no different minus a baby carriage.
I can't give advice about the long hours, because I work P/T.

That is really comforting to hear. I know that anyone can make it work but it is just scary sometimes to think that you'll never know when the "right time" really is!

For us, we talked about it a lot and decided to wait until November to start trying. However in September I found out I was pg, and then I miscarried. This showed us just how much we want it....

Couldn't agree more. I haven't had those wonderful carefree days in nearly 6 years...I would never trade it for anything. Sure sometimes I think how easy it would be to get things done if only...but you know what, my life would be empty.
Lots of people wait for the right time...and find that time has passed them by. And honestly, your not not trying method is probably one of the best simply because you aren't getting your hopes up and focusing all your energy on TTC. The downside is that when/if you do get PG, you might be shocked a little at first, but the joy you will feel erases all of that.
