Why exactly do I want anyone's opinions on our names??
Today I was talking to SIL (DH's sister) and we were talking about how if the baby is a boy, we are naming him Christopher Michael, III and are planning on calling him Trey.
She says: "Are you really going to name him Trey?"
I say: "Meg, I thought you realized that would be a nickname and the baby would be named after your brother and father"
She says: "Oh good. Trey is so faggy. And SO Staten Island (wha?)"
I don't know why people need to voice their opinions about what people want to name their children!! When she wanted to name her daughter Millicent, I didn't say anything!!
I swear. I have no patience since getting pg.
ETA: We've always said that we are using this name, I am quieter about our girl name since I don't want an opinion.

That's rude.
This is why we are keeping the names a secret just between us until the babies are born. These other people don't have to raise them, they don't get to name them.

How annoying. I know that has happened to many of my friends, so lots of them won't even tell people the names they are considering. We've been telling and only once did my mom say that she didn't like one of them. Personally, I don't care about anyone's opinion except DH & I. It's too bad if they don't like the name we choose.

That is why we are not telling anyone the names we chose until the baby is in our arms and we say - meet....
We don't want anyone to affect our opinions in any way - this is so completely our choice....

My co-workers teased a fellow expectant employee who wanted to name her son Trey. Everyone kept of saying snack Trey.....I felt bad for her. She wound up not naming her son this because of all the teasing. Thats why so many people keep the name to themselves. What are they going to say once it's all said and done?? People can be so mean!!

I'm sorry that people are so rude. Now I see why my bro/SIL decided to keep their names a secret until baby was here. We actually decided to do the same....once the baby is born, no one is going to say anything about his/her name---now I see why its the way to go.
Although my dad harassed them every time they saw them...."at least give us a hint", give us an initial, etc.

That is SOO funny!!
It is a nickname, not a given name, so the kid could really call himself whatever he wants. I just always thought that the right thing to do with names is keep your mouth shut unless it was your kid.
Grrr. I am so passive agressive that when she said her daughter's name was SOO unique (Sophia) I had to point out it was #10 on the ssa.gov website last year (the year she was born).

I love the name Lucas and my mom said it reminds her of Lucifer, the devil. Where and how she came up with that I dont know, but I just decided it only matters what you and your DH think. Not everyone is going to love the name you choose, so who cares.

you are always going to have people either LOVE or HATE the name you pick. i had the same thing happen when i named my son Logan. i could give a rats azz what anyone thinks. trey btw, is an awesome name.

I personally like they name Trey.
We had thought about it because my husband is the "3rd" so his nickname was Trey (for three) for a while. I thought about naming a boy that just for his father.

I comlpletly understand...my mother actually think sthat if she doesn't like a name then we will through it out. I have tried to explain to her that its not up to her...but she doesn't seem to get it

I know how you feel. I actually stopped telling people the names we are thinking of because we were getting too many opinions. They'd be like, "that's 'nice' but blah blah blah is such a better name, you should name her that" Uh is this your baby or mine.

LOL....I completely forgot about the whole "Trey" thing. I told DH we couldn't name the baby after him [he's the 2nd as well] b/c a nickname for that is Trip[p] [as in triple]...and i dated a guy who went by that. That wasn't my only reason...but you know honestly, it annoys me when people give me crap...i mean ADVICE ...about what i should name or do with the baby in MY uterus!
I do hope the opinions simmer down and you can feel free to name your baby as you wish. Who cares what everyone else thinks?
