Drowning in Long Beach
DH and I kept commenting how the tide was so rough yesterday and today at the beach. Ironically I haven't been in the ocean in years but I finally decided to try yesterday and today. Well after about 10 minutes today I had to get out. I kept getting pulled out further and further. I actually said to DH that they should not allow swimming today b/c people just don't realize the power of the current and the poor lifeguards can only do so much.
We get back from the supermarket around 7:10 and as I am driving down the block, I see fire engines, ambulances, a Nassau County Helicopter in the sky and so we walked down to the beach and there's hundreds of people, lifegaurds in a human chain walk. So sad. The thunder & lightening just started so I think they are calling off the search for now I'm saying my prayers.
**BTW, I couldn't believe how many little kids I saw in the water today (not in close proximity to their parents). Some parents are just downright stupid. Life is too precious **

Re: Drowning in Long Beach
Thank goodness they got one!!!
As for the second -it wasn't for lack of trying that is for sure.
Give your DH a pat on the back for me. I'm thankful we have such a dedicated rescue team. It sure is one of the toughest jobs there is.

Thanks, Kate! I figured something wasn't good when he was gone over two hours

Re: Drowning in Long Beach
DH also told me they purposely kept the lifeguards on duty an extra hour tonight because the water was so rough! This happened while the lifeguards were still on duty!

That is so sad. I can't even imagine what that poor child's parents are going through right now.

Re: Drowning in Long Beach
The first one may have not been so lucky if they weren't.
Honestly I haven't seen it like that in a while- I mentioned that before going in - I was winded so quickly!
And one lifeguard kept waving at everyone because they kept drifting out. I'm glad he did. Luckily finally I was just pushed towards the shore by the waves. I won't be going in the water for a while. At least not till I see it much calmer.

It's so scary. I never go in the water when the surf is strong. I'm so scared of the undertow.

Re: Drowning in Long Beach
I was at a party at my old apartment. We saw the fire, police, and the boat back and forth on Broadway. We knew something bad happened.
